I love modern day prophets who are still with us…Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell Robbie Robertson and Mike Cope. They speak (sing) and like the Psalms and Prophets, have alot of good things to say.
Freshness for the journey.
Keep singing and preaching. The message never gets old.
Well you know, I was always the first to arrive at the party.
Ohh-ohhh, and the last to leave the scene of the crime.
Well it started with a couple of beers.
And it went I don’t know how many years.
Like a runaway train, headed for the end of the line.
Well, I finally got around to admit
that I might have a problem.
But I thought it was just too damn big of a mountain to climb.
Well, I got down on my knees and said, “hey,
I just can’t go on livin’ this way.
Guess I’ll have to learn to live my life one day at a time.”
Oh yeah! One day at a time.
Well, I finally got around to admit that I was the problem.
When I used to put the blame on
everybody’s shoulders but mine.
All the friends I used to run with are gone.
Though I hadn’t planned on livin’ this long.
Have to learn to live my life one day at a time.
It was somethin’ I was too blind to see.
I got help from somethin’ greater than me.
And I have to learn to live my life one day at a time.
That song is one of the reasons why I still hang on to my old HD DVD player. The Eagles did a concert in Australia that was released to HD DVD and not BluRay. Watching him perform the song live is a thing of inspiration. My wife and I watched it last week and thought that song was really sacred music. Maybe the DVD will come out in BluRay, but until it does I keep my HD DVD.
Hi Mike- Unrelated to this video, I wanted to let you know that I got to hear you speak over the weekend in Austin. Loved it. Love your heart. Love your message. I waited in line a couple of times to talk to you, but, never had the time to wait because of the masses who also waited! I’ve met you several times over the years (I have a daughter adopted from Vietnam, so I was touched by your previous blog post) and, each time, I walk away convicted and steadfast in my desire to stand strong in the Lord, in spite of the many questions I might have had lingering in my mind. Your approach in talking about faith and Christianity is authentic and humble. I am thankful I had the chance to hear you again.
Nice new look, Mike! LOVE Joe Walsh… saw him a few times during his less sober days. His ramblings between songs were incoherent but his guitar playing & voice always great. It’s nice to see him clean & sober. Gotta add this song to a long list of cautionary tales, Lou Reed’s “Heroin”, Stevie Ray’s “Life by the Drop”, etc…

Why isn’t this on one of their albums? Can’t find it in the iTunes store!

Okay, that helps me translate all those “verily, verilies” of Jesus: it’s Joe Walsh yelling “Oh Yeah!”
I love this…..he’s so believable.
Yes he is! I love the Joe Walsh songs — “Walk Away,” “Rocky Mountain Way,” etc. — but this one is so honest and profound.
