Holy Week Saturday . . . and Waiting

2011 April 23
by Mike

I waited patiently for the Lord:
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the Lord.

(Psalm 40:1-3)

    U2 singing Psalm 40 (from the end of the “War” album). That’s worship.

    Saturday, the day before Easter, the day before Jesus rose. If anyone still had hope that day, if anyone clung to their faith on that day, if any believed on that day – that is waiting on the the Lord.

    One of the all-time great live concert clips. Thanks for tying it into our Easter hope.

    One I think about on the Saturday before that great day is the thief on the cross. What faith to ask one hanging on a cross with him to remember him when He comes in His kingdom! On Saturday, the thief is with Jesus in Paradise. Does this mean he was with Jesus just before the resurrection? That he knows what is happening ahead of time? No doubt he is amazed that he is with Jesus, that his sins are forgiven, that he is experiencing the glories of Paradise.

    Waiting on God is one of the hardest parts of being a Christian. I often find myself caught between “How long?” and John 6:68–”Who else is there to go to?”
