Heartbeat’s New Website: reallymatters.org

For the past year, Landon Saunders and I have been meeting with and listening to groups of young people (mostly 18-29) as they talk about faith, relationships, and meaning in life. As you know, this generation has left “church” in unprecedented numbers. So we’ve been listening to them as they talk about their deepest beliefs.

As we’ve asked them about the possibility of meeting with friends to talk about some of life’s most important themes, the response has been great. So, we’ve been preparing some material to assist them. At their advice, the material is fairly minimal. As you can tell, we opted to do these clips pretty simply. Some of the interviews were shot with iPhones. The focus isn’t on snazzy but on authenticity. Also, the clips are short since the focus is on discussion and listening to one another. The discussion guides suggest . . . they don’t answer. Some of the groups will show these clips to launch the discussions; some will maybe just offer them as discussion starters; some won’t even use them.

But the videos and study guides are here: www.reallymatters.org. Soon we’ll be adding a second set of study guides for those who want to include Bible study as a component.

I mention this here, because it’s possible that some of the material might be useful by groups you know of — campus study groups, small groups, huddle groups, small Bible classes, etc. If you can use it — great. It’s free. Just pull whatever you need off the site. We’d love to hear from you with feedback and suggestions. This is our first attempt. We’ll be tweaking as we go!

One of the things Landon and I learned was that the deep issues that young people are working with are the great universal issues that we all struggle with–so the result is something that you might be able to use in discussion groups at home, at church, etc.

Here’s a little introductory video for those we’ll be reaching.

I would appreciate it if you could send out the link to www.reallymatters.org to your network of family and friends.

I love these video clips (the 3 I just watched): the interviews, the short talk, the material for groups to discuss. I’m in a regular fellowship group that I think will want to use these. And thanks for the discussion guides. I look forward to checking them out later, especially the ones with Bible study.

This is really wonderful stuff. I was skeptical when you announced your resignation and your new plans, but count qb among the converted.

    *salute*

The dream now has substance and a wonderful one it is!!
I’m so happy and pleased not only for the young people that will find joy in taking part in the material, but for you, dear friend, I’m thrilled. You and Landon have a put together substance that younger ones will find speaks to them and the challenges they struggle with daily. Blessings and thank you and Landon for your heartbeat for the young!!
    Love you in Him! K
