Connecting Caring Communities

2010 August 6
by Mike

Landon and I are wondering who stole Thursday night. We left Dallas at noon on Thursday and got here (Japan . . . on our way to speak for a week in Singapore) at 2:00 Friday afternoon. It was light outside the whole way.

This note is from Brad Carter from Connecting Caring Communities in Abilene — an amazing group:

You may have seen that this month we are competing in the Pepsi Refresh Project– the only Abilene area idea to be accepted in the contest since it started in February and the only one in our area. We’re excited about the possibility of receiving $250,000 for our work in Abilene. BUT, we need as many votes as possible to make it happen. People who like our idea to “transform forgotten neighborhoods into places where people find hope” can vote for us EVERY DAY during the month of August online AND by text message.

Online voting at: http://www.refresheverything.com/abilene
Requires a login, but Facebook users can login quickly with their Facebook account. Login in bottom left corner, then select “Vote for this Idea” every day!

Vote by text message: Send ’101909′ to PEPSI/73774

Amazing hospitality: we were met by four members of the church in Singapore at midnight. Looking forward to two Sundays, a couple seminars, etc.

Here’s a link to a video I had earlier this year for CCC: http://preachermike.com/2010/03/24/about-that-no-creed-thing.

Mike, I know what you mean about loosing time on the plane. I feel that everytime we fly back to the states from Germany. We leave at 11 am fly ten hour and then arive at 2 on the way there. That is pretty good but on the way back we leave at 4pm and arrive at 9am. I never sleep much on the plane (this last time 30 minutes) and then have to stay up all day if we want to beat the jetlag.
By the way we missed seing you at the family reunion. Enjoyed seeing your folks though, Kent

    Hey, Mike

Enjoy your time in Singapore et al! In response to your tweet last night, we can ‘get’ 98.3LIVE through their live streaming radio.

Now all we have to do is figure out if “Wednesday morning” is Singapore time or Abilene’s. ;)

Praying for travel mercies and a great harvest for the LORD’s Kingdom in Singapore through Landon’s and your talks there.

    Still missing you.

    In Him,
    K

Just catching up on your blog. Have been emailess for two weeks. Love the picture with Diane at the beach. I am waiting for you to grow a pony tail that the hat demands. Love it. Kudos on your list of remembrances of the beach. Now that we live in Traverse City near Lake Michigan I cannot get enough of water and trees taller than me. Do miss Abilene and Highland but not the dust and dirt.

Thanks so much, Kathy, for tracking that down. I’m afraid “live” means it’ll be the middle of the night for you. My mind hasn’t quite made it to Singapore. I’m about halfway across the Pacific, but doing better. Kent, I just COULD NOT stay awake those first couple days. I took laps that were long enough to ruin the night’s sleep but not long enough to feel recovered.

Laura – After some skin cancer, I’ve become a hat guy. But I like the ponytail suggestion. :)
