John Wooden is remarkable ~ His nuggets of wisdom are profound and they hit home to your core. Many don’t see that all of our activities not only should but must be intertwined in faith or you’re going in circles in life. My Wooden favorites:

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

“You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”

Thanks, Carmel. Those are powerful statements.

In 1942 soon after WWII broke out Frank Davidson gave his friend, a former Indiana High School and Purdue basketball star, a cross to carry with him on the naval ship where he was commissioned as a lieutenant. Unfortunately the young man suffered an appendix attack and was unable to go… this misfortune became the beginning of many cross carrying blessings. You see, the person who took his place was killed in a kamikaze attack. The young lieutenant who went on to serve three years in the Navy was John Wooden who ESPN selected as the greatest coach of the 20th century. Coach Wooden, the “Wizard of Westwood,” won 10 championships (7 consecutively) and carried that cross in his hand or pocket every game along the way. It was no good luck charm he insisted but a reminder of the Prince of Peace. May He rest with his Prince in Peace!
