Eagles Concert

I’ve been a fan of The Eagles since high school. A devoted fan. As in some of my favorite music of all time.

But I’ve never gotten to go to a concert.

And that streak ends Tuesday night!

More about The Eagles later. But for right now: what’s your all-time fav Eagles’ tune?

Eagles

    “Victim of Love”!

Many people blame the Eagles and their “Hell Freezes Over” tour for the outrageous ticket prices today.

Tequila Sunrise is probably my favorite song. The guitar solo in Hotel California is one of the best ever.

Take It Easy. Co-written by Jackson Browne; how could they go wrong?

Has to be ‘Lyin’ Eyes’ or ‘Desperado’ or ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling’ or …. Wait! I can’t pick just one.

Kester your wrong… OLD 55 written by Tom Waits…i guess it’s not a Eagles song… ok then Bitter Creek off of “Desperado” Once saw them at Anaheim Stadium with Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt. but there were better by themselves at the Whiskey.

    Ditto “Victim of Love”

It’s really tough to beat the sheer acoustic beauty of Seven Bridges Road…even though I have been known to belt out Hotel California while climbing mountains. So a tie between those two.

Well, my two favorite Eagles — Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon — didn’t stay in the band. Apparently, a little Henley and Frey go a LONG way. That said, I love “Peaceful Easy Feeling” primarily for that amazing solo Leadon does on his Telecaster. Absolutely incredible. Beyond that, it’s all the songs on which Meisner sang lead — “Take It to the Limit,” “Try and Love Again,” etc.

I love the Eagles and have seen them twice. Both times I was pretty close. But, the Eagles philosophy is to play their concert songs exactly like they sound on the album which I don’t like. When I go see them and pay a lot of money to do so I want to hear some different takes on their classics, of which they have many. It’s a different philosophy from most other bands. They are still greatness, though. I loved their new album, too. “No More Walks in the Wood” was very reminiscent of “Seven Bridges Road”.

My all time favorite group too! Went to one concert – greatness!
So many: Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take it to the Limit, Take it Easy, Lyin’ Eyes…
    enjoy!

Seven Bridges Road. Love the harmonies.

Though I’m partial to the songs on this compilation album, the first song on my playlist is “Hole in the World” (released following 9/11):

There’s a hole in the world tonight.
There’s a cloud of fear and sorrow.
There’s a hole in the world tonight.
Don’t let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

They say that anger is just love disappointed.
They say that love is just a state of mind,
But all this fighting over who will be anointed.
Oh how can people be so blind

There’s a hole in the world tonight.
There’s a Cloud of fear and sorrow.
There’s a hole in the world tonight.
Don’t let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

Oh they tell me there’s a place over yonder,
Cool water running through the burning sand,
Until we learn to love one
Another we never reach the promise land.

There’s a hole in the world tonight.
There’s a Cloud of fear and sorrow.
There’s a hole in the world tonight.
Don’t let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

Have seen the Eagles in concert a few times, & every time I can’t seem to take my eyes off Timothy B. Schmidt…..not because of looks, but because of the way he handles himself while playing & singing. It’s cool to me. We took our younger son & DIL the last time, last year…….when the band walked out in suits & were OLD, the looks on the kids faces was priceless. Ha! I’ll have to admit, it was a little disconcerting to witness, but once the guys picked up their instruments & started to play, the thrills began. Have a blast from the past……

I dunno about the Eagles, but I wouldn’t mind enjoying tea with Sarah and Todd Palin, that’s for sure. qb

“Hotel California”…It’s not only my all time favorite Eagles tune, it is also my all-time favorite song ever. And the acoustic version may be even better than the original.

It was also this song that made me realize there was more to rock-n-roll music than the hard-rock/heavy-metal stuff like Motley Crue and Ratt (though I still love those bands).

    Grace and peace,

    Rex

Gotta be “Hotel California”. But not the acoustic version – you must have the electric guitar solo driving it. (But “Desparado” was one of the first songs I learned to play.)

I really like ‘Life in the Fast Lane’. It’s fun to blast in the car with the windows down!

And about “Hotel California”: haven’t been able to get past confusing wine with a spirit. “We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969.” Spirit? Wine is fermented, not distilled.

    Not that I know.

“Frail Grasp on the Big Picture”:

    You my love-drunk friend
All that red wine and candlelight
    Soulful conversations
That go on until the dawn
How many times can you tell your story?
How many hangovers can you endure
Just to get some snuggling done?
You’re living in a hollow dream
You don’t have the slightest notion
What long-term love is all about
    All your romantic liasons
Don’t deal with eternal questions like
Who left the cap off the freaking toothpaste?
Whose turn to take the garbage out?

Frail grasp on the big picture
You keep on rubbin’ that, you’re gonna get a blister
It’s a frail grasp on the big picture
    I’ve seen it all before

And we pray to our Lord
    Who we know is American
    He reigns from on high
He speaks to us through middlemen
    And he shepherds his flock
We sing out and we praise His name
    He supports us in war
    He presides over football games
    And the right will prevail
All our troubles shall be resolved
We have faith in the Lord
Unless there’s money or sex involved

The Last Resort. A Long Road Out Of Eden.

Saw them when they last came to the American Airlines Center. The best concert I’ve ever been to. Sat on the floor and worth every penny to me. They played almost 4 hours.

I got to see Glenn Fry and most of the band a few years back. It was wonderful, you are in for a amazing time. Favorite song? Probably “Take it to the Limit.” Followed by Peaceful Easy Feeling.

I have no more song suggestions, but just wanted to add my two cents about the Eagles in concert. I have heard them twice and there is no way to fully describe their live concert. My all time favorite concert was Paul McCartney in Memphis in 1994, but the Eagles are a close second. To me it was a “bucket list” experience. I look forward to hearing your reaction.

Hard to narrow it down, but my top 3 are Hotel California, New Kid in Town, and Get Over It.

  38. April 21, 2010

Reading all those Eagles song titles sent me on a way-back flashback, but if I were forced to choose a favorite, it’s gotta be “Seven Bridges Road.”

  39. April 22, 2010

Forgot about this one, but just heard it – ‘Love Will Keep Us Alive’!

  40. April 22, 2010

I’m late for the party, but wonder what your concert take was Mike?

I’ll go with Hotel California, but the fact of the matter is the Eagles miss Randy Meisner much more than they would ever admit. Take it to the Limit and One of These Nights are phenomenal songs, and Randy’s high-end was never duplicated the day he left the band.

  41. April 22, 2010

I agree, Kent. Meisner is something special.

I thought “Get Over It” on the Hell Freezes Over Tour album was great! I guess of the oldies it’s a toss up with Lyin’ Eyes and Take It Easy. But I loved all of their harmonies, Kent

  43. April 25, 2010

Being an equally loyal Eagles’ fan (saw them in Los Angeles a few years ago), I don’t think it’s fair of you to limit the question to one song! But it would probably be “Seven Bridges Road” simply for the amazing harmonies. But just about any song in which Bernie Leadon (founding member) plays banjo would be among the best!

To Robert: I always thought the line in Hotel California about “We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969″, preceded by “Please give me my wine” – had to do with the boycott of the grape growers and wine industry in general in the late 60′s and early 70′s to call attention to the plight of the migrant workers in the wine industry – and “spirit” means to me that someone wants their wine as opposed to boycotting. Just a thought.
