Rattle and Hum

Here’s George Pendergrass, formerly lead vocalist for Acappella and now Director of Multicultural Enrichment at ACU, singing with a little known rock band. Maybe they’ll make it big someday. (Note: if any of you have gotten to go to their 360 concert, here’s where you can brag to those of us who didn’t score tickets.)

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes I’m still running

You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believe it!

And by the way . . . thanks to Leon for calling my phone during the concert in OK City and leaving a couple minutes on the answering machine. Wasn’t quite like being there, but still very nice.

I saw them in Atlanta. It was amazing.

Jana and I took the boys to the concert in Dallas. The acoustics were pretty bad where we were seated (up high), but the boys didn’t notice and could have cared less. It was their first live, rock concert. “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where the Streets Have No Name” were religious experiences. But for us, the high point was Bono singing “Amazing Grace.”

Amen and Amen…I thought Bono’s piece in the NYT this weekend was great.

U2 360 in Toronto was a pilgrimage for me and my brother. What a thin space moment. The fascinating thing: U2 draws people for many different reasons. Some of the folks there don’t care much justice, social issues, etc.

I’ve been a fan of U2 since “The Joshua Tree,” at which time they quite literally helped save my faith during my theological studies. This Sunday night in LA, I am taking my wife and two of my daughters to see them live for the very first time!

We saw them when they were in Arlington at Cowboys Stadium a couple of weeks ago…..great concert! Would prefer them in a smaller venue like American Airlines Center in Dallas though. Also, there were several of us in the over 40 (or 50) years age group as there were all ages there.

I bought tickets for my husband’s graduation present…he’s loved U2 for years. And wow. It was quite an experience. I agree with Richard…hearing Bono sing “Amazing Grace” (as a lead-in to “Where the Streets Have No Name”) was phenomenal.

Saw them in Arlington a few weeks ago. I just bawled through most of the encore. Religious experience, yes definitely.

Lots of ACU folks at the Dallas 360. Megan and I saw profs and students. Amen on the encore with the Desmond Tutu speech, followed by One/Amazing Grace (look up the lyrics on One – very profound), and Streets Have no Name. Thanks Mike!

Kendra (a U2 fan of 27 years) and I were in Arlington. Our expectations were very high and they greatly exceeded them. It was also cool to run into so many people we knew in that throng of 100,000. The main downside could be the expensive hobby we picked up- namely going to any U2 concert we can manage.

Wow, what a cool experience. Not anyone can do this.
