Parenting Priorities
2009 September 17
This clip that’s been playing around-the-clock brings back wonderful memories. About fifteen years ago I was at a Rangers game when the same thing happened. A dad risked his life leaning over the ledge to snag a foul ball, handed it his little boy, who promptly tossed it back. You have to love this dad’s reaction. You get a feeling he’s a guy who understands priorities.

He, his little girl & the rest of the fam were just on TODAY. Good sense of humor about the whole thing. Best kind of Daddy….
I absolutely love that video. The dad’s reaction is just priceless. THAT is a dad.
Maybe she’s a Cubs fan at heart. Dad’s look is priceless. I must say though, this whole…. let’s get the family on Today and re-hash it seems to be getting out of hand to me. Just my opinion.
We need to see more dads like this one.
It’s good to see someone keeping their cool in the midst of frustration.
The dad said later that the look on his little girl’s face after she threw the ball back indicated that she sensed she did something wrong. He said it was then that he knew she needed some reassuring, so he hugged her tight. Sounds like another Father I know.
An absolutely wonderful and precious video. What a thoughtful and encouraging Dad.
Did the team give them a ball ?
I see they’ve taken it off youtube. Here’s another link for it:

Thanks, Matt. I just put up another YouTube link. It may be pulled, too. So thanks for this other one.
Ray, I saw one clip of them being given a ball and jerseys from the team. (They may have been given a team ball on every morning show they appeared on!)
The video was on the MLB.com site (and was pulled off YouTube, I think, because of MLB copyrights) and may still be there. As to whether the team gave them another ball, the story on the MLB site accompanying the video said three different Phillies team executives independently got a ball and headed toward their seats, so yeah, I think they didn’t go home empty-handed.
Good . Thanks for the information.
