Random Monday
Random Monday thoughts:
I keep having meals with people less than half my age who always order water (even when I’m paying!). I always get a Diet DP or some other diet soda. Do they know something about aspartame I don’t?

I’ve just added a link to my buddy Jeff Berryman’s blog. Take a look. He’s a writer and actor and has been the interim preacher for the past two years at the NW C of C in Seattle. I’d still list his Leaving Ruin as one of the great reads of my life. I’ve seen Jeff bring a whole room of ministers to tears through his one-man performance of the “Leaving Ruin” story.

Every year my fall syllabus lists as “excused absences” for class watching the Texas Rangers in the World Series. It hasn’t happened yet. Could this be the year?

Yang forgot to read the newspapers or he would have known that he couldn’t beat Tiger in the PGA. Every sports writer in the world knew he didn’t have a chance. (Suddenly my prediction from 2005 that Tiger won’t break Nicklaus’s record is a bit less outrageous, isn’t it? Ok, maybe just a bit.)
I LOVE Leaving Ruin. Definitely one of the best reads of my life. Barryman came to OC to do the Leaving Ruin performance when I was a sophomore, I believe. I can’t count how many times I’ve re-read the book. So good for the soul. Thanks for sharing the link!
Great random Monday. I loved Leaving Ruin also, have read it and seen the play. When Comes The Way was my favorite Jeff B play. I married a theatre guy and one of my earliest memories of Jeff and Angie was Sunday night play reads at their house. For a long time I wouldn’t go with my boyfriend/fiance because I was just TOO indimidated by the whole deal, acting in front of others was not in my comfort zone, nor reading a play out loud. After some time I did start to attend, but don’t remember if I ever read or if I just watched and listened. None the less Jeff and Angie are two great blessings who shine God’s light wherever they go.

And yes, Aspertame = bad. Water = good. Although Abilene tap water might be on the same level as aspertame in our house, but that’s another story.
And to be blatantly commercial, you can read a review of Leaving Ruin here; excerpts here.
You can also purchase a copy from the publisher at Leafwood Publishers site, too.
Tiger just assured himself another $20M in appearance fees in Asia over the next decade – that’s a guarantee. Will he win 5 more majors? Probably.
Someone on sports talk radio call Tiger “washed up.” I’d love for my golf game to be that washed up. He’ll break all the records.
Aspartame is “sweetened death”, according to my sons. (Play on “sweet ‘n low, which I use to sweeten my unsweetened tea). They’re pretty horrified about a lot of my health patterns.
Saw and Loved “Leaving Ruin!” It did make me cry.
I did want to comment on your Jack Nicklaus prediction. I totally agree with you and I have told my friends for years that he might not get Jack’s record. People do not understand how incredibly difficult it is and underestimate the challenge of winning one major tournament. Tiger has made it look so easy that people believe he should win at least 2 a year.
As time goes on every major will be a major accomplishment. I think Tiger still has a great chance to catch Jack and probably will. Tiger is the best golfer I have ever seen but to win 19 majors will be an awesome test!! I am looking forward to watching him fight towards that number. It should be fun!
I’m starting to believe you’re right about Tiger. It almost seemed like he was possessed by the spirit of Greg Norman on Sunday. He has yet to surpass Nicklaus as the greatest ever (IMO).
Oh, and water rules!
Tiger will wind up with 21 majors. You heard it from the Frankster.
Rangers aren’t there yet . . .
but, I have to say, they looked good over the weekend . . . or was it that we just looked bad . . .
Here’s one for you. Does Tiger really deserve that much money for hitting a ball around?
When tea is $2.50 a glasss most places, maybe people are protesting by ordering water!
Edward: Yes. Emphatically YES. Why not, for the love of Pete?
BTW, Mike, a dear friend and RN recently counseled qb – a DDP addict – to eschew aspartame-sweetened beverages and opt for stevia-sweetened iced tea. It is a *fantastic* sweetener, far better than any sugar substitute qb’s ever tried.

Edward, Tiger deserves whatever the market is willing to pay him. It’s called capitalism which is a dirty word in some circles. Anybody can do what most people do for a living. There’s only one Tiger Woods and he generates a tremendous amount of money for his sponsors and the people they employ. It’s a beautiful thing.
Mike–I thought Jeff Berryman’s recent post on the “Broken Heart” was just outstanding and deeply moving.
