Holy Ground

2009 August 3
by Mike

My very first blog was six years ago tomorrow, and it was about the “holy ground” our family has found at Pensacola Beach. And today we’re heading there!

Joe Patti’s, here I come! (Fresh seafood market with shrimp, amberjack, grouper, snapper, etc. The basics.) Peg Leg Pete’s, I’m on my way! (Get that grouper sandwich ready.) Get the Bose speaker cranked up: the iPod is full of Jimmy Buffett.

For Diane, Pensacola Beach is sun, sand, and water. For me it’s fresh seafood, tennis (my one time each year to play), cycling toward Ft. Pickens, good music, a novel or two . . . as well as a quick dip in the ocean.

Mike, we are just down the road a ways at Seaside this week as well.
JC & I are celebrating our 30th. We came here 2 yrs ago for a mutual friend’s wedding and fell in love with this area. Enjoyed looking for those little white sea crabs last night on the beach. You guys have fun! Mark.

Mike, would you have time to take a look at my question down thread on your blog “Losing My Religion for Equality”? Have a glorious vacation!!

Three words, inspired by our family’s recent vacation to Kauai:

    Ahi tacos.

Isn’t Pensacola the place where you found your soft spot for all things Nicholas Sparks? 8-)

So IS Fort Pickens reopened now? Would love to hear how that looks now. Take some pictures while you’re down there and pass them along.

Chiquito’s Mex-to-Go here in Little Rock has started serving fish and calamari tacos that take me right back to Malibu Seafood across from the beach … they are almost that good ….

Ya can’t use “youth” as a tennis excuse, Mike. Tennis is a thinking man’s game, and in recreational forms of it, caginess, wisdom, and psychology can easily overcome speed and power.

Of course, there’s also that skill thingy, but qb digresses.

Yes, yes. Ft. Pickens is open. The road has been redone WITH A BIKE LANE!

qb – I’ll believe that youth doesn’t provide an edge in tennis when Wimbledon has a Tom Watson story: some 59 year old playing a centre court in the finals! Keep me posted.
