New Look
Thanks to Greg KB for the new look. He’s done so much of the behind-the-scenes work since this blog began in August of 2003, and I’m so thankful. It’s really, really low pay: an occasional lunch at Rosa’s.
There have been 1361 posts . . . 32,832 comments . . . and over 3,000,000 page visits since April 2004 (we didn’t have a counter or comments for the first 9 months).
By the way, the look will continue to change a bit with the new, updated version of WordPress. But at least for now, it looks crisper. That’s his doing. Thanks so much, my friend!

I’ve added a Twitter link if you’d like to follow.

I was reading something from John 12 to a class the other day. Let me rephrase that: I intended to read something from John 12. It was missing in my Bible. I don’t remember getting mad at John and ripping it out. This is from my favorite teaching New Testament: a hardback TNIV. I apparently waited too long to have it rebound.
I still have my old KJV from high school — complete with a note that it’s from my parents. Still is worn, showing evidence of actual reading. I lost my early preaching Bible — NIV. It was replaced by one just like it that I’ve rebound. It’s my prized full Bible. Plus, it still has John 12!
Look, the salient fact is the reference to Rosa’s.
Let’s get one thing straight: salsa. Tomatillo salsa – two ladles into the large styro bowl, followed by three ladles of the hot, blended gently and accompanied by an entire large styro bowl filled with pico de gallo. Then a #52, no beans, extra picadillo.
That, friends, is LIFE. From Odessa to Abilene to Amarillo (2x), let the truth be spoken forth.

That, and a double meat Whataburger on a wheat bun; no bun oil, please.

By the way, Mike – I just discovered there is an easy to install method for putting your Twitter updates right on your blog, if you want to go that far. I just put it on mine a few days ago.
Oh, you do have good taste in WordPress Themes… lol
It must be something in the SW Missouri water. Larry S uses a bible that is falling apart around his hands as he speaks every week. I’m sure it is older than I am. Knowing that he is nearly as cheap as I am, I don’t know if I could pry it away from him to get it rebound or not.
You just can’t go wrong with GBK
Mike,
Was it the free hardback TNIV with wide margins that was given away by Zondervan to many universities and grad programs a while back? Mine just fell apart this week in Romans.
I wish GKB could give me a crisp new look for Spring.
Reading comprehension is not my friend this morning. I initially read the second line of qb’s post as “two ladies into the large styro bowl…” Oh well.
Paul W: Knowing that he is nearly as cheap as I am, I don’t know if I could pry it away from him to get it rebound or not.
Solution? Duct tape!
It sits on my desk for daily reading. Love this Bible. A sweet gift from the couple that brought me to Abilene. A gift given to me in 1985 while still living in Mexico City. Yep! Duct tape’s holding the hard cover together.
That’s what holds my first big print NIV together.
Or you could always go with the “Duct Tape Bible” in the New Century Version. My sister got me one for Christmas a few years ago. It’s pre duct-taped. The sleeve on it said, “What two things in this world are more enduring than the Word of God and duct tape?!”
You associate with GKB? I get it……you are doing the salt and light thing.
Good luck with THAT!
I love the guy too.

Or you could do what I and many others have done, get an ESV.
Godspeed on your new assignment.

I lost my favorite Bible a while back and it made me sick! It was the one that had all personal notes in it from almost every seminar and lecture I’d ever been to, and also was the one I used for every Bible class I took at Harding. Nearly every page had notes on it – there were literally hundreds of lessons and little jewels written in the margins.
I was very upset about losing that Bible – I left it on top of my car while in St. Louis visiting a church plant. I was sure it was gone, until six months later a friend took a trip to that same church plant and while taking a tour of their building saw my Bible sitting beside their baptistry.
He recognized it as my Bible, because he’d been the one to buy it for me as a Christmas present years before.
Lucky me – I got my favorite Bible back, and it’s the one I still use today
I’d like to get another Bible just to start a new journey of highlighting favorite passages!
This looks a lot like the standard Kubrick installation with a couple of tweaks. Nice, clean and simple. Are you (he) working on a new header image? Or is the plan to keep the solid brick?
Q – I think it is Kubrick on 2.7.1.
Overheard somewhere: If your Bible is falling apart, your life probably isn’t.
Funny… the first eleven verses of John 8 are missing in my Bible… as well as most of Mark 16….
I agree with Royce==replace it with ESV or NASB. Either provides depth lacking in some areas of NIV.
Maybe the publishers thought Todays NIV should have John 12 missing, After all they messed with gender.
Everybody should have a little GKB.
Wow, it seems like everyone is joining Twitter these days, I guess I better get with the program and start tweeting…
Didn’t mention that this isn’t the final look. Still trying to decide on a theme design. But in the meantime, this works.
RogueMinister, the omni-wise Opus once observed that his cousins down on the Falkland Islands used to watch the Harriers and the Argentine fighter jets screaming overhead, all flightless birds gazing in unison, and when the jets flew over them fore-to-aft, every single one of them ended up on his prodigious tuckus, beak in the air.
Just some wisdom as you consider your future in Twitterdom.

This new look isn’t good for my diet. I’ll be thinking about chips and guac every time I come over here!
Amy –
The guac is GOOD for you. (Ok, can be a bit heavy on calories — but it’s the good kind. The more you eat, the healthier you get.)
For chips: Get some tortillas (whole wheat if you can find) and cut into wedges. Put a little olive oil and sea salt on them, then bake for about 8 minutes.
My family loves it when I do that. Tastes better. Much healthier.
I like the way you think. Will definitely try the tortillas, sounds delicious!
