Spring Break

2009 March 6
by Mike

Since 1984 I’ve preached in a university setting — first in Searcy (seven years) and then in Abilene (eighteen years).

I’ve come to love the words “Spring Break.” I know technically, the church isn’t on Spring Break; but there is still a calming, a relaxing of spirits. It’s like a week of deep snow where everyone just needs to hunker down a bit.

We have very special plans for next week. Son Two is having four wisdom teeth out on Monday. Just how every sixteen year old wants to spend his Spring Break. Besides feeling yucky, he’ll have to miss a couple of his baseball games.

Still . . . (and this is easy for me to say since it isn’t MY teeth coming out) . . . we’ll be slowing down a little. We’ll be catching a movie or two, trying to work out a bit more, sleeping in a bit (translation for me: 6:00).

Hope you, too, get a break one way or another in the next few weeks.

I’ll look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow at the Zoe conference in Lubbock. Randy Harris and I are driving up this evening after Chris’s game.

You can read an excerpt from Pam’s new book Jantsen’s Gift: A True Story of Grief, Rescue, and Grace in the April issue of Reader’s Digest (and available here online).

Seems every year a lot of seniors in high school have their wisdom teeth removed on spring break. Good idea if going to college. Your own dentist and pop takes care of the bill. My granddaughter did the same thing.

Our boys graduated from college 5 & 2 years ago respectively, & my husband & I still talk about what we’re going to do “Spring Break”!

ENjoy the Zoe conference Mike and Randy. WIsh we were there but we do get to enjoy our Zoe tapes. In fact their songs have been learned by the singing groups here on the campus of Namwianga Mission and sung with a whole new accent. End of term is April 3 and the students get a break, but our campus will seem very quiet without them.

Not a fun week for poor Chris. I just want you to know that you are a blessing in my walk with Jesus, Mike. Thank you for pointing me to the excellence of the Lord. I pray for you, Diane, Matt, Jenna, and Reese very often and now I pray that the Lord will pour out the riches of His Spirit among your precious family.

I’m glad of course to have Ashley coming home. But as MY Spring Break isn’t until April 6, I’m totally confused about why ACU is having their’s already.

Remember when “Spring Break” was “Easter Vacation”? I miss that.

Well, Chris and Josh can sympathize with each other. Josh had his wisdom teeth taken out on Friday. Hope you guys enjoy some relaxing this week!
