Get Your Series Predictions Here!

Two commercials I love: cheer-leading and light-sabering.

- - - -

I have Red Sox over the Rays. Dodgers over the Phillies. Red Sox win the pennant. (In these perilous economic times . . . and remembering my track record of predictions in years past . . . please don’t take these predictions to Vegas.)

- - - -

The musings of a young minister with too much time on his hands. Ha!

- - - -

The saga of conservative columnist Kathleen Parker continues. She endorsed Gov. Palin. Then asked her to step down, saying she’s way out of her league. Then she started receiving vicious, threatening hate mail.

This is from her most recent column:

“Readers have every right to reject my opinion. But when we decide that a person is a traitor and should die for having an opinion different from one’s own, then we cross into territory that puts all freedoms at risk. (I hear you, Dixie Chicks.)”

Welcome to our current state of discourse.

Guess where I went as soon as the last Zoe session was over (all right, technically, I left out a back door about fifteen minutes before the session was over to head to the airport!):

That first commercial may now be my favorite YouTube clip! That’s wonderful. Thanks for the post.

Go Sox!! So glad we have a few nights to catch up on our sleep!! Going to be a battle with Tampa Bay — they are for real!! Really REALLY don’t want a Dodgers match-up, but a Phillies match-up would be hard, too. My granddaughter is being pulled both ways now!! :-)

  3. 3 Mike

Marla - I started to call after the final out. You were the one person I KNEW for sure was watching and celebrating! Lackey pitched two good games in the series but didn’t get a win.

You might enjoy reading Peggy Noonan’s newest book “Patriotic Grace”. It addresses the tenor of the current political climate.

I think a lot of Christians put way too much emphasis and priority on that bunch of overpaid ex-convicts known as professional athletes. It makes me sick when a Christian says his/her day “Is ruined” b/c their “team” lost its meaningless match. Watch whatever you want, but when you actually start to care…that’s a problem. Care about your neighbor, care about your family, hell, care about yourself…but don’t care about a team filled with individuals who could care less about you and your pitiful escapism.

I love the cheerleading bit! That’s hilarious!

I’m tired of Boston teams winning, so….. GO anyone but Boston!!! I’m an American League guy, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Joe Torre and the Dodgers win it all.

Thank goodness Hockey season is here! Go Wings!

  7. 7 Mike

Ummm, Todd. So can I list you under the demographic “not a huge sports fan”?

  8. 8 Todd Palin

Yes Mike, and I don’t mean to bust your chops…you seem like a dude who knows how to balance his priorties. But seriously….am I crazy, or is it absolutely berserko for a Christian to allow professional or collegiate sports to affect their emotions?

Thanks Todd for leaving high school teams out of it. Friday nights in Texas are meant for one thing only from Sept. to Nov.

WS will have the Phillies and the Sox. I think it’s the year of the Philly - they win it all.

Any preacher/pitcher analogy should include Mark “the Bird” Fidrich (sp).

“Friday nights in Texas are meant for one thing only from Sept. to Nov.”
    Yep, marching band half-time shows.

On a more serious note, it’s a sad day in America when you can’t disagree with a candidate without being branded a traitor. And, much as I hate to say it, I’ve seen a huge portion of it from conservatives, a political group that’s supposed to be mostly Christian. Even if it’s not death threats and claims of being a traitor, it’s mind-numbingly hateful speech. A Christian should never be using terms like “libtard” - after all, I seem to remember someone important saying something about loving even your enemy. That’s another bad sign for the US - the “other side” of the political spectrum has become the enemy in our minds. Are we really this divided?

  11. 11 clint

Todd, you sound a bit hypocritical for someone who is a four time Tesoro Iron Dog champion.

  12. 12 brad

    Todd,

    Yes, crazy.

  13. 13 preacherman

Definately the Red Sox and Phillies! :-)

  14. 14 Kathy

I’m not saying my choice, but I too am a bit weary of seeing Boston in the playoffs and WS - so no Red Sox [and my wish came true, the Yankees are no where to be seen. YAY!]

As a San Diego fan, the LAST team I’d like to see in the rest of this post season is the Dodgers team! Sooooo - take your pick on the final two of what’s left. ;)

  15. 15 Caleb

It’s totally going to be Tampa Bay Rays vs. the Dodgers. I HATE the Red Sox…..totally fair weather fans….nothing worse than going to a Red Sox at Texas Rangers game and hearing all of the new Red Sox’s “fans” from DFW crawl out of the wood work and chant “let’s go Red Sox.” I don’t know maybe if Kevin YUCKullis would clean off his batting helment or if Ian Kinsler got half the pub that gnat Dustin Pedroia gets even though he is half the player I would kind of like them….whew….glad to get that off my chest…and precisely because I am a depressed Ranger fan I say go Rays go! In hopes my team can have a similar season…someday…

no way on Philly, they have no pitching outside of Cole Hamels

  16. 16 matt elliott

Put me down for Devil Rays vs. Dodgers, with my apologies to the Steve Holts out there.

  17. 17 Angela

Not a sports fan….Just wanted to say that every time I see a picture of Mike and/or Dianne with that precious granddaughter I just smile! :-)

  18. 18 Todd Palin

Soul, Soul!!! I’m not a mongoloid, though I am married to one

  19. 19 rojay1950

    matt eliott
I also am rooting for Rays v. Dodgers; hoowever, it is only since exorcizing the Devil that the Tampa Bay club has enjoyed success. Worst to first in one season!

  20. 20 Kyle

Phillie over Dodgers (enough Manny already) and Red Sox over Rays. Phillies are world champions with one of the most balanced teams since the 2000 Yankees. By the way pennant is awarded to the League Champions. So yes the Red Sox will win the pennant but not the world series. (sorry in advance for the nitpick)

  21. 21 Mike

Kyle - Not sure I’d agree with you entirely. Yes, we usually use pennant to refer to the league champions. However, it just means a flag flown by a champion. Therefore in common usage you often hear people refer to winning a “World Series pennant.” Google the words in quotation marks.

  22. 22 The Steve Holts

    It’s OK, Matt …

noticeably absent from the playoffs this year? The Braves. =)

  23. 23 Janaga

Commercials were great! I watched all I could find! They made me smile! :)
