Praying for the Eagle

Today I’m praying for Randy Harris and his family as they have the funeral for his stepmother, Melba Harris, following a difficult battle with ALS.

Tomorrow I’ll be praying for American Eagle. If Randy gets back, he’ll be doing the evening keynote at ACU’s Summit on Romans 9-11.

Want to guess what Plan B is if he doesn’t get back?

Now you know why I’m praying for American Eagle tomorrow. (But I have a black t-shirt, black jeans, and N. T. Wright’s book on Paul laid out — just in case.)

“And so all Israel shall be saved.” Good luck with that.

Mike, I work for AMR, and I can tell you that this request might be difficult, even for God.

We will keep Randy in our prayers as well. Can’t imagine you standing up there in all black…………….

Thank heaven for towns like Amarillo, which are just large enough to support Southwest Airlines service.

As a last resort, sing a Johnny Cash hymn.

qb - what would I give for SW Airlines service in Abilene? Sad to say, they don’t and we have to struggle with connecting flights through Dallas [American Eagle] or through Houston [Continental]. Grrrrr! If we want SWA we can either drive to Dallas or the other way to Midland/Odessa, and Continental says it’s going to pull out at the end of the year. Humpf!! :(

It might be worth a flight just to see Mike’s version of Randy.

Kathy, that’s just one reason to acknowledge that Amarillo is to the earth as seal blubber is to the polar bear.

Take the similitude in any direction you wish.

    qb,

If I remember right, Amarillo is to the earth as armpit is to the sweaty football player after practice.

ALS is just an awful disease isn’t it? Thankful that Melba’s battle is over.

And you would totally rock Moody in all black… singin’ Johnny Cash.

qb - LOLOLOLOLOL! And I’ll never ever tell in which direction I took your simile. :) Must say, however, that it is very contemporary. ;)

Giddens, thou noble beast, in sooth, forswear to pursue that course of blasphemy further, lest qb be tempted to play the *ahem* El Paso card, as in:

    “Forswear it. Thy blood
    is too precious to
    be spilt in defence
    of such a bil’ous
cesspool of vileness”…nay, forswear it, the gods entreat thee.

    iambically,

BTW, Brad, that should have read, “noble YANQUI beast.”

Wish I could hear his take on Romans 9-11. I’ve never heard anyone within churches of Christ speak on this section of Romans. I would love to hear your take on it, Mike. Care to bite?

This has nothing to do with your post… I was just wanted to suggest something to you - could you do a Question & Answer series on your blog? Where readers can submit questions on issues in the Church and more? I have questions (and I’m sure others do to) and I would love your insight on them. Thanks for considering this.

Dear Mike, I am late commenting on your “losing things” entry. Two months ago I got an email from Arthur Shearin. He’d recently found my Bible (given to me and written in by my grandfather) in a classroom in College Church. I had given up on that thing! He mailed it to me, and I am so happy!

I told him if he could find the sapphire ring I left on the piano in a practice room, and the boots I left under a bed in Poland, and the winter coat in Cincinnati, I’d be all set. At least as far the important things I lost while at Harding…

We have a new boy named Todd. Our twins spent a week with Steve in Jellico. Love him.

I’ll say a prayer for Randy’s safe and timely arrival.

’twas nothing personal, of course. Either you or Shelley - I can’t remember who - introduced me to the Scorpions’ “Blackout” LP, for which I have long been grateful. I even named my boys Matthias, Klaus, and Rudolf.

Well, that last one is not quite accurate, but you take my piont.

Rachel: Patrick Mead has been doing a series like you mention for a while. You can find it at:
