I Know It LOOKS Like Gum . . .
There is a very private place where my granddaughter and I go: to the Jeep. It’s a place with rockin’ music from Pa-Pa’s iPod, a cool tin container to put coins in and then dump them out and then put them in and then dump them out, and with a secret compartment that contains an “illegal substance.” (Note to my son the doctor: I know, technically, that little girls don’t need gum. But I give it in such small quantities that I think it can’t possibly do any harm. Plus, I usually try to keep soft candy instead. Just happened to be out again.)
Here are a few shots from today. (She’s returning to NC with Mommy tomorrow.) The last look on her face might convey the sense that we both know it’s a bit naughty.

That’s just precious!
What delicious fun for both Pa-Pa & Reese!
So, that is what you gradpas do in the jeep……..since she’s not mine……..awesome! Cute pics.
She’s such a charmer.
Hey, gum is better than some of the stuff YOU probably chewed on as a kid. . .
I’m pretty sure that’s sugar-free gum. So you aren’t even rotting teeth! You’re doing what PaPas are supposed to do — spoiling ‘em rotten! She is so very precious…
I am also quite sure it must be sugarless gum. Reese obviously promised Pa-Pa that she wouldn’t swallow her gum.
I’m not sure I’m brave enough to give Caleb gum.
We have this motto at our house: what happens at KK’s and Papa’s STAYS at KK’s and Papa’s. It’s worked well so far for gum, sips of coke and other delicacies. Thanks for the photos, Mike. I love them!!
If a grandpa can’t sneak his granddaughter some gum every now and then, what’s the point? Grandparents just get to break the rules. Period.
She’s adorable with those little sweet curls. As soon as we finish eating out with my parents the kids know just what to do. My Dad has trained them to wait for their little piece of candy at the cash register. As grown children (parents of the grandchildren) my sister and I just roll our eyes. It’s not exactly, Ahem, what their parents let them do all the time.
Enjoy the last days of their visit.
I think that last picture is more like “Pa Pa why are you taking a picture, some one might see?”
My Pappaw gave us Lifesaver suckers with two flavors. The stick had the sucker’s flavor printed on the side. We only got them at his house and to this day I can’t see those suckers without thinking of him.
So sweet, such a cute little munchkin. Those curls!
My grandpa ran the student center at the high school down the street. I’d ride on his shoulders on our walk there, and he’d raid the store for me. Mostly LifeSavers suckers (bikegirl – the ones with two flavors swirled! Ditto and ditto!) and beef jerkey.
Precious…
I love it!
GUM is good. Anything goes actually. As grandparents we don’t have to go by any of the rules that parents do. I love that part. We have popsicles for breakfast around here.
Cute.
Mike thanks for sharing these precious pics with us.
God bless you brother!
Let’s make a scriptural application, and all will be well! Psalm 34:8 says, “Oh! Taste and see that the Lord is good!”
What kind of impression of God’s goodness would your precious granddaughter have if you offered her a stale crouton? Methinks that gum paints a much sweeter picture! Indulging her is your job as a Grandparent. Besides which, you’re making memories for both of you!
When I was a little girl, my Granddaddy gave me my most favorite birthday gift ever ~ An entire box of Double-Bubble gum. I think of his generous love whenever I see this stuff!
So you have gum and a Jeep? What a cool Pa-Pa you are!
