Regarding the Maureen Dowd column, did the priest really call Paul a mysognist? Was this sarcasm directed at Maureen?

In any event, his advice seemed good at it’s root. I thought it odd though that he thought a Muslim man and Catholic woman shouldn’t marry because of how the man might treat the woman. What about the fact that both thinks the other is probably going to hell? I’m guessing he thought it wasn’t necessary to go there. But still, I could see a young girl reading that article and saying “This doesn’t apply to me because the Muslim man I love treats me really well so we’re good.” I guess I’m just thinking that article was pretty skin deep. But at least someone’s talking about it.

Eddie’s decision to leave Abilene for Austin caused enough sadness throughout the whole community that at least one of our TV news programs did a piece about his upcoming departure. It makes me sad as well. Austin will be blessed by his presence, and Abilene will be a bit poorer in spirit.

Hey Mike - a little off topic. I guess it’s official - your friend Eddie Sharp will move from University cofc in Abilene to University cofc in Austin - after a great 28 year run in Abilene! Leading me to wonder - surely that was the longest current running pulpit tenure of a 500+ member church? Wonder who has the title now? Rick Atchley?

Guess we’ve been too wrapped up in “grandbaby-land” to even know what Charlie Bit Me is! From your comments it is obviously a movie…will have to check it out. However, I doubt it can be nearly as entertaining as a precious barely 2 year old grandson and 4 month old granddaughter around the corner! When we sit down to eat, and the 2 year old holds out his hands and says, “Pray,” that creates memories that warm a grandparent’s heart!

Wow, carlamac-thanks for sharing! That is beautiful!!

I remember going to a Dennis Jernigan concert when I was in middle school, and will never forget it-what a wonderful night of worship, and his testimony is wonderful, too.

This is such a great line:

“I still love acappella praise and worship, and I love instrumental as well, and I am thankful to know that it doesn’t have to be an either/or.”

Amen, sister!

For some time I had listened to Contemporary Christian music on cassettes and the radio and I didn’t have a struggle at all in the context of my years of legalism, because it was for my own encouragement and exhortation, not for worship! The first dent in my bubble was at a Dennis Jernigan concert when the very personal words he was singing in worship to his Lord touched me in such a way that I caught myself worshiping along with him. Oh, my, could that possibly be sin? No, I reasoned, because what was occuring in MY HEART was of greater importance than the fact that there was a piano in this large auditorium.

The wipeout of my bubble was when someone asked me to attend a night of instrumental praise and worship. My little legalistic heart struggled, but I agreed to go. At first I sat there with a high degree of judgementalism, but the words of the lyrics started causing me to look at my own heart instead of judging what was happening around me. Then, when the musician playing the soprano sax played a solo of a familiar song of surrender, my heart burst within me. Ironically, the words that were not being vocalized spoke to me in a way I had never heard before. I believe the stirring notes being played allowed the Holy Spirit dwelling within me to speak to my spirit in a way I had never allowed. What an incredible blessing!

I still love acappella praise and worship, and I love instrumental as well, and I am thankful to know that it doesn’t have to be an either/or.

ZOE cd’s thrill my heart, as do the Vineyard live praise and worship cd’s. The song “I Can Only Imagine” could play continuously from now until I enter eternity and I think I would not tire of it.

The joy of my life is praising my Lord! And He has taught me through some very difficult times that no matter what is happening in MY life, HE IS ALWAYS WORTHY OF ALL GLORY AND HONOR AND PRAISE!

One of my favorite “mom memories” is when I was babysitting a friend’s infant, about 9 months old. I had her and my 11 month old son in the tub when she started screaming. I asked what was wrong and was handed a finger with big teeth marks. My sweet son, with an angelic smile, said, “Eat Maeann.”

You know…it is kind of funny (and ironic) that so many have mentioned Michael Card as we are having this a cappella conversation. I just remembered that a few years back at ACU-Michael Card came and did a small, intimate concert and he was talking about how beautiful he found and how much he loved our a cappella singing. He was encouraging us to sing along, and he said something to the effect of, “I KNOW you guys can sing-come on!”, and “There is definitely something to this a cappella music-don’t stop” I know I am not quoting him verbatim, but I remembered that. I guess it is all about perspective.

I do love a cappella singing, but also greatly enjoy jamming out at a concert or in my car to instrumental music. They both have a special place in my heart!

Charlie bit me is a FAVORITE at my house. And if we ever have to say ‘that really hurt’ — we have to do it with a British accent! And usually follow it by chastising poor Charlie!
