I love the idea of everyone bringing their own meal! Everyone gets to eat together without anyone having to coordinate a major meal.

The intergenerational devotional sounds meaningful. Is there an emphasis placed on the idea of valuing our relationships with those older and younger than ourselves?

Our Wednesday evenings generally consist of Bible classes with a couple of exceptions – on the first Wednesday of each month we have an intergenerational worship time that involves stations. Last month our worship focused on loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. One station let all ages craft a heart out of pipe cleaners and beads, one station let our folks pray with our shepherds and their wives, one station provided an opportunity for everyone to engage their creativity in journaling a psalm, and at one station we crafted a community chain of paper to symbolize our community’s strength and the strength with which we love God. Our worship also consists of songs, prayer, and scripture, in addition to our “station time.”

Also, on the second Weds of each month, in addition to our regular classes we have a support group that meets for those who are caring for elderly parents. That has been a source of much encouragement to many folks as well.

We just finished the series Life on Loan and are now using Wednesday nights to bring our small groups to branch out in the Life on Loan concepts.

So our small group is sometimes meeting on Wednesday night but we are planning a big Block Party for the neighborhood and planning is underway. We are really excited and finding ways to spread what we are about to the community.

We have three groups at our congregation and it is great to the momentum building and the excitement as each group is coming up with their own way to reach out the community.

We are having “Oasis” on Wednesday nights. The school-aged children (up to 7th grade) have theirs in the Outreach Building with songs, lessons, crafts, etc., and the adults and teens have a period of devotion and singing in the auditorium. (Children younger than school-aged have their regular Wednesday night classes.) We used to have a Summer Series where ministers from other Central Arkansas congregations came and spoke on Wednesday nights. I really liked that.

We had to drop the Wednesday night meal for the summer because we couldn’t get enough cooks, but I think the BYO idea sounds great. I’ll mention that to the elders because I really miss the fellowship of eating together on Wednesday nights.

I was hoping for a different type election this time but it looks like politics as usual.

I have a “picture” of Jesus laughing, it changed the way I see him. Maybe if the world sees the church laughing it will change the way the world sees him.

It seems like almost every Church of Christ has gone to the “summer series.” Some of them look pretty good.

This year and last, we had Vacation Bible School early, and then extended our V.B.S. into what we call “Camp Wednesday.” It has a relaxed, summertime feel to it.

Would be interested to hear how it goes for y’all.

Barring some major world event or a scandal in either campaign, I’m expecting another photo-finish. This nation is still really polarized.
