Rochester College

Congratulations to the board of Rochester College for appointing Rubel Shelly as their new president. His intentions are not to serve in the position for long but to allow the board to do a nationwide search. I’ve known Rubel well for a long time. They couldn’t have chosen better.

One more Pepperdine lectureship in the rearview mirror. What an amazing privilege to share the class in Smothers with Zoe.

Your 3 days of sharing with us concerning “grace” was fantastic, as always! As usual, Zoe was off the charts. I hope Highland will put the kids telling their Bible stories on You-Tube for the whole world to see. INCREDIBLE!

    Love you brother,
    DU

Two to three sure is a great time of the day at the Pepperdine lectures. Thanks to you & the Zoe group for making the hour so special each year.

Your parents are precious. Had some sweet conversations with them while out there. I’m glad I got to say “hi” to you at Paradise Cove. :)

So glad you had a great time and was encouraged at the Pepperdine Lectures. Wish I could have been there. I have a read 2 of your books Mike and was greatly encouraged and enriched by you.
I am likewise sure Rubel will do a fine job as the President of Rochester College.
    God bless!

    Dear Rubel!

    Good for Rochester!!

He was the first to crack open the door to full church membership for me. His were the first words I ever heard about women having equal responsibility and right to develop and exercise their God-endowed gifts. He occupies a very special place in my heart.

As far as Pepperdine and Malibu are concerned, envy does such strange things to my complexion. I refuse to comment on anything that changes my face to a most unattractive green. ;)

But I’ll welcome you home anyway. :)

We really enjoyed your classes in Smothers. The worship and the lessons were incredibly moving and uplifting! May God continue to bless you and your family as you minister and spread the wonderful message of God’s scandalous grace!

I love Rubel Shelly. I’m glad to hear this.

I’ve heard from a lot of people that you did a great job. Thanks for sharing your gifts.

Well, Mike, hearing your series on grace, visiting a bit with you and spending precious time with your parents was the highlight of our week at Pepperdine. And that’s saying a lot–with all the wonderful teachers and friends there. It was a great year wasn’t it! Thanks again for giving us so much in your class. I wish everyone I know could hear your classes and experience worship with you and Zoe in Smothers.

My husband and I tried to get in to hear you on Friday but it was too late - the auditorium was full. We heard some great speakers all week, sorry we missed you.

I’ll just leave my thoughts at my blog and express my deep gratitude for your letting God “pour through you the gift of preaching,” Mike.

On a similar note I gave one of our Chinese sisters a Rubel book the other day, and she said, “I know this name, he was the guy who wrote the book about why we dont use instruments.” I thought it was funny because of all of the ways I have heard our brother referred to, this is one I had never heard.

That should make for an interesting experience for the college.

Even if you have great singing at your church, which we do, did you notice after Pepperdine, well, our own sounded a bit flat to me Sunday.
    Loved your lessons
Loved hearing Rubel and glad he can help out at Rochester.
Sorry, Steve and I never got to talk with you.

After having Rubel as a professor for three years, I am confident that his academic and leadership credentials are sound to lead this university for whatever period of time he is needed.

As to Pepperdine and Malibu, I have to say that my brief trip to Abilene this weekend to pick up my daughter from ACU will be an exhilaration and a disappointment. I think you know the source of each.

    Peace.

There have been few men who have had the impact on the church as much as Rubel has. From my limited experience in the church, there seems to be few people who has been loved and hated as much as Rubel. I hope he writes a autobiography some day.

Wasn’t it Rubel who said, “If God is your Father [referring to Muslims and Jews], then you are my brother” ???

I heard that he said it, and I agree with the sentiment expressed…

Freed-Hardeman had their chance. Oh well. Congratulations Rochester.
