Red Sox

You COULD be gracious and just point out my most recent picks. And I quote:

Red Sox over Indians.
Rockies over D’backs.
Red Sox over Rockies.

Take it to the bank.

Of course, I’m sure you’d prefer to point out that my earlier picks were uniformly incorrect.

At this point, still staying with the Sox.

If you’re a podcast listener, remember to listen to Jerry Taylor’s message yesterday from Highland. It was one of the best sermons I’ve heard in a long time.

Anyone out there remember hearing Landon Saunders’s ACU Lectures on Preaching from the mid-70s (1975, I think)? I remember “The Wilderness,” “The Wolf,” and “The Marketplace.” What were the other ones?

Blessings on all our friends at Pepperdine and throughout S. California as they wait for the fires to die down.

We get the chance to hear Jerry this weekend in the NW at our unity gathering. I am sure we will be blessed.

I, for one, feel Pepperdine was miraculously spared yesterday when you look at the fire patterns from that area. Continued prayers for that community. Sorry we missed Jerry yesterday to top off Homecoming activities, but we had to blow out of Abilene and get home (pun intended).

Is it just me or have the Red Sox and their fans become just as insufferable as the Yankees and their fans? If this keeps up I think we might have two evil empires!

My hope is on Colorado, but my money’s on Boston.

    Go Red Socks!!!!

    Socks :-)
I’m more of a football fan.

I may not be the best person to make this statment since I am a Red Sox fan, but if you live anywhere near New York, you will quickly realize that even the most insufferable Sox fan is no match for just the average Yankee fan.

I am sticking with the Sox as well. They are better at every position than the Rockies, but 21 of 22 is nothing to laugh at. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rockies won, just crushed and disappointed.

Here’s the lastest on Pepperdine from the Christian Chronicle. Prayers go out to that University and area.

The set of Landon CD’s I have . . . I.e., the set of CDs I haven’t yet returned to Ken Danley, say “ACU Preacher Lectureship — 1971.”

Titles are: Wolf, Wilderness, Mission, Discipline, Message, Assembly, Marketplace.

Jerry’s sermon was Spirit inspired, and one we need to hear over and over until we begin to follow his example and plea!!

Would love to hear Landon’s series!

My younger daughter and family, plus recalcitrant and reluctant 89 year-old neighbor are evacuating. They live 10 miles north of Rancho Bernardo fire in San Diego County. Still have not been able to contact my niece in east county San Diego, nor my niece in Los Angeles area.

They so desperately need a God-given soaking rain to snuff out these monster fire storms. One came dangerously close to Pepperdine earlier today, but the University is still untouched. PTL!

Thank you all for prayers going out for CA residents!

My daughter, Jen, who works at Pepperdine said the students did great during their on-campus evacuation. All is calm there as of 6:30 p.m. central time which was the last time I talked to her. She did come upon fire-fighters sleeping in the commons area of her apartment complex on campus last nite when she went to retrieve the coffee pot she had loaned them. Must be a nice feeling to have firemen right there. (She left the coffee pot)

    Mike,
I don’t know much abouot baseball. I have been a Rockies fan since the beginning because of living in Denver for about 27 years.

I hope that my Rockies win because we have waited a long time. Clint Hurdle is a great guy it seems with prioriites before baseball like his family. He said recently he didn’t get to watch what he wanted on TV until he won a game of pick up sticks with his kids.

That is the kind of manager that I appreciate.

    Go Rockies!!!

Is it really an “offical” World Series without the Yankees? Indeed, the Sox are insufferable and I hope the Rockies sweep them in four. Then Manny can be Manny all winter long and no one will care.

  16. 16 Tina

The mother of a Pepperdine student said during our ladies’ group meeting today, “They have some awfully cute firemen out there!” :-)

  17. 17 Kathy

“Indeed, the Sox are insufferable and I hope the Rockies sweep them in four. Then Manny can be Manny all winter long and no one will care.”

I’m with you, Victor K. I’m one that thinks Manny should be fined for not wearing protective gear when he pulls off his helmet as he runs toward home. But that’s just me. :) Strange, isn’t it - he never “loses” the helmet between first and second, nor second to third. Strange indeed. Humpf!

Victor and Kathy–I will take Manny being Manny any day since he knows how come through in the clutch. “Manny being Manny”=World Series MVP, one (maybe 2) titles; “A-Rod being A-Rod”=highest paid player, no production in the playoffs.

Also, isn’t it funny to listen to Yankee and Red Sox fans call each other insufferable? It’s kind of like John and James telling one another, “You’re a son of thunder!”

  19. 19 Chaplain G

I am reading your blog while working in a shelter in Poway, CA. The air is thick and lots of people have lost nice homes. We have 250 in the shelter down from 750 last night. Pray the winds will die down.

    Red Sox all the way!!

My husband has still has those tapes stored somewhere in all our things. Landon had a profound impact on his life.

  22. 22 Kathy

Bless you, Chaplain G. My daughter and family live only a few miles north of Poway in the southern part of Escondido.

I was looking for the podcast of Jerry Taylor and can not find it either on iTunes or on the Highland site. Is there somewhere else where I can find it or is it not available for download yet?
