Zoe 07

Was fun to connect with several of you at the Zoe Conference in Nashville this weekend. My time was shortened because of Chris’s football game Thursday night and preaching at Highland on Sunday morning. But still, it was excellent. Lynn Anderson was pumped by the stuff that Brian McLaren did. I’m anxious to get into his newest book.

In the first 11 games of the playoffs, the four teams I picked to win their series were a perfect 0-11. That’s right. Not one single win. Three of the teams I picked (Cubs, Phillies, Angels) went out in three games. Finally, last night the one team I would have been happy to see swept won a game to keep me from being 0-12.

So . . . I’m sure you’ll be glad for the Yankees/Indians series to end so you can see my next round of predictions and place your bets!

Glad the conference was a success. King George’s latest comments almost make you want to root for Joe Torre just a little - just a little bit - nawww. Go Indians. Rockies and D’Backs - who would have thunk it?

It was good to see everyone.
And, tell Randy his voice sounded strong to me.

Didn’t have a chance to say “hi” at Zoe, but I’ll be home in a couple of weeks for homecoming and see you then…..

Hmmm…. to quote that famous philosopher, Old Adage, “That’s why they play the game.: :)

Good talking with you up in the booth.

    btw Mike,
I try to drink a lot of soft drinks; but, my dear, sweet wife gave me a six pack of Dublin Dr. Peppers as a “stocking stuffer” gift for our anniversary this year.

KentF - “Go Indians. Rockies and D’Backs…”

Let’s just leave it at “Go Indians and Rockies, okay? This is my druthers choice for the WS; two young, exciting teams and new to the WS, especially the Rockies. Exciting, I tell ya’! :)

Oh & btw Mike, glad you made it back from Zoe. Sunday’s sermon was an especially special one. [couldn't resist the redundancy. :) ] This promises to be among the best of your series that I’ve heard so far. Bless you for being so dedicated to your gift; that of preaching!

McLaren’s book is really good - did they tape him at Zoe?

When your blog draws more than 230 comments, it is so apparent that you have many readers and that you are a preacher and teacher with great influence. It is disappointing that in neither of your two blogs written since the one on the ad about instrumental music have you made any statement about the disrespectful way foolish names were added to the petition. I know you cannot control what your readers do; but since they read your blog, you know that your comments would have great influence. Perhaps all the names were not added by your readers, but they were not on there when you wrote the original blog.

Mike, Zoe was wonderful. Thank you & ALL the people who dedicate themselves to making time spent there a real refreshment for our hearts & minds.

Sandra, you have got to know that Mike’s post isn’t to blame for those that wrote the inappropriate signatures on the “for a cappella” website. SO many people saw the ad and have seen the website—way before Mike wrote his post. It IS unfortunate, but don’t blame Mike for other people’s rudeness & crudeness.

    Welcome to the internet, Sandra.

The folks at a cappella dot whatever that site was should have simply moderated that. It happens ALL the time. Mike’s own site gets blasted, etc.

Hope the folks at that site will remove the goofy names, and any names of questionable gender so as not to have a female minister sign it. Although, aren’t there a few Churches of Christ in the Northeast with females as the primary speake/preacher/etc.?

AND! Talking about the Series. The Evil Empire went down in flames.

    ******* Indians 6 Yankees 4. YAY!!!! ********

Next up - Rockies vs. D’Backs.

    GO ROCKIES!!!!! :)

Woo hoo! Goodbye Yankees. I do feel bad for Torre, ex-Cardinal and all, but I honestly think his life can’t help but be better if he gets out of Gotham. “Hey Joe, there might be an opening soon in St. Louis…”

3 out of 4 for the first round, let’s see…

    LCS:
    - Rockies vs D-Backs - Rockies. I’m not sure anything can derail that Colorado freight train, and even tho both teams are young, the Rox are oozing confidence. Will be a fun series.

    - Sox vs Indians - Sox. Again my heart says Cleveland, but Boston is so dangerous come playoff time, especially with Manny healthy and hitting again. I’m still rooting for Cleveland.

    WS:
Rox vs Boston - Preliminary pick: Rockies in a upset. (gulp)

Well Mike, the results are in. I guess I can’t give you too much grief about being 0-4 since I didn’t actually make any predictions myself. Instead, I’ll just join in the rejoicing that the Yanks are toast.

Zoe ‘07 was outstanding! Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it another great experience.

I’m sitting here at lunch, listening to “Overflow” and checking back over Mike’s blog, and noticed that what I meant to say was I try NOT to drink a lot of soft drinks! But, as Mike shared at Zoe, Dublin DP’s are a whole ‘nuther matter!

Never mind a spellchecker. I need a context checker!

Hi, Casey! I’m pretty sure they taped McLaren. I saw a lady at the airport pull McLaren’s book from her bag and used that as an opening for a conversation. What a blessing the entire weekend was!

  18. 18 Amy

I agree, Jamie - it was a blessed weekend. Great to see you and hear you, Mike. Your messages are always so timely, and we all appreciate the way you use your gifts to build up the kingdom.

    Mike–hope you’re feeling better today!
