So far in the playoffs, if you took my predictions and decided to go the exact opposite way, you’re doing very well.

Last night’s freshmen football game was in Midland. That’s two trips to Odessa and one trip to Midland. Oh, the sheer beauty of I-20! But we’d go to El Paso if that’s where we were playing. Those moments don’t come back around.
Ahh yes, I-20. We have two trips to Odessa in our very near future. And I’m excited. Go figure. We think Max might be back in by then!
Go War Birds!!!
Mike:
The last two days of Dobson’s radio program were interviews with H.B. London, a pastor who is a son of a pastor. He very candidly told the heartbreaking story of how his father, who was apparently a very good preacher, virtually ignored H.B. Only went to watch one of his games.
Your investment in your boys’ sports, etc., is invaluable. Matt and Chris will always remember how their busy preacher Dad took lots of time to BE THERE for their games. To God be the glory.
Jim
My Husband and I have been up since 5:45 AM. We will leave at 4:00 PM today to travel 2 hours to an away Varsity Football game to watch our youngest daughter on our Drill Team. We will be home by 1:00 AM if we are lucky. It is a long day, but we could not imagine not being there. (It helps that we love football and have a winning team)
Following your kids all over Texas, Good Call!
I will always remember the fact that my dad was at every one of my games for all of my sports, except one time he had to miss because one of my grandparents was sick. He would sometimes be the only person in the stands at away games and would travel several hours to watch me play. This is even more amazing considering it was relatively common for me to make a fool of myself when I lost my temper.
Mike, the others who already mentioned it are right. This will have a life long impact on your kids. Thanks for posting this it makes me think of my dad.
I’m doing pretty well.
3 of 4 choices have won, including the swamping of the Evil Empire last night by the Indians. Yay!
Of course, the detested D’Back WOULD have to beat the Cubbies not once, but twice. Grrr!
BUT!
and Yay! As has been said, “The Rockies don’t crumble but the Phillies do stumble!” Go Rox! [my surrogate Padres team]
Chris must be thrilled and proud to see y’all at his games. Having watched kids and grandkids’ games, I’m now waiting for the greats ti start theirs. Yay!
Makes the drive worth it, doesn’t it.
My dad and mom had some sports events to follow with my swimming and diving activities [often 2nd place in diving, but first in swimming meets], but where they never ever missed were my voice recitals and competitions. Did better there than in diving with singing. Parents are the ones sought out in a crowd of people and is a joyful sight when they’re spotted.
We once drove from San Angelo to El Paso for a play off football game… and we were just fans..no family playing! It is one of my favorite high school memeories with my family.
Glad we are back to happy talk over here today at PreacherMike!
Cleveland vs. Chicago would be alive if the Cubbies had a manager. Safe travels to all HS football parents this weekend! (West Texas distances are further, but you make much better time than in East Texas - be thankful for interstates).
I’m stinkin’ it up, too. The Phils are down two games to the ROCKIES, for crying out loud! But it sure was fun seeing the Yanks get waxed last night.
Mike,
I ran across an article about marraige and baseball and thought you and your readers might be interested in the results. It seems that the divorce rate goes down when a major league baseball team is located in an area you live in. The conclusion drawn is that baseball can unite a couple by them experiencing the game together. The website is located at http://www.asumelove.com
Mike,
I was so blessed because my family came to my games also. It was very comforting and even empowering to see my dad up in the stands (actually giving me signals of what to do). You are ministering to Chris more than he lets on and you are giving him an incredible example for his kids. In addition, I was amazed at how many parents did not come to their kids games. You are ministering to these kids as well because you are there watching them also.
I-20 has become so windy since they put all those fans up along the highway.
Mike, thanks for jinxing all of the teams with your predictions.
Clint! LOL
Only someone from west Texas will get this one and why we all walk, bent like a tree, leaning to the northwest. LOL
Not only are you and Diane at every game, but when he plays in Abilene, you bring a whole fan club! That was fun cheering him on and watching him score last week. Enjoy this special time! He’s growing up so fast!
It was great for my parents to be at as many sporting events as possible, especially since when it comes to athletic ability, I’m about as good as A-Rod in October (rim shot, please!).
My dad was a preacher who raised his own support, and part of that support came by driving a school bus for years. He always seemed to be able to drive the bus that was taking my team to wherever it was we were going. When I watch parents be over-zealous with their young children or when I see the children who have no family support with them, I am thankful that I had parents who came to watch me and encouraged me above all to have fun.
And speaking of sports, YAY!! ROCKIES!! YAY!!
YAY!! For the first time in baseball history, two WESTERN teams will battle for the NLCS. GO ROCKIES!!
Wow — the Rockies & the D-Backs! Unbelieveable. It’s really hard to root against the Rockies right now, so I don’t believe that I will.
Man, was I was off-base. I really thought the Phils were the team to beat. (I guess they were the team for the ROCKIES to beat, huh?)
Great seeing you yesterday, Mike, if only for a minute! Great job at Zoe.
Go Rockies!
As long as the Mets got waxed…. I’m happy too
Gooooooo Rockies….
Great blog!
BDG
So good to see & hear you at Zoe. I thank God for you & all the others who make that wk.end so uplifting.
ENJOY every minute with Chris. I miss mine with a physical ache as I know many do. How I’d love to hear the drums banging & the guitar strumming down in the basement as I cook dinner for them. Halcyon memories.
matt elliot still blogs (or at least comments) …who knew?
Thanks for the shout-out there, SG!
El Paso? are you sure? My son lives in El Paso. There’s not much green there — trees, grass, etc.
Great message.
I guess you’ll check out my diary..
Thank You Again
I’m predicting that the Rox sweep the Dbacks.
OK, might be a bit early, but Holliday just cracked a 3-run homer in the 4th to make it 6-1, and I’m calling it. Congrats, Rockies fans!
The Colorado freight train just picked up some more steam.
