The Texas Rangers — yes the same team that is currently 14 games under .500 — scored thirty runs last night against the Orioles. It was the most runs scored by a team since 1897. That’s right, most runs in 110 years. Does this tell us more about the Rangers’ bats or the Orioles’ pitching staff?

I got to speak at the Candlelight Devotional Tuesday evening. It’s always such a powerful time. I actually took my camera this year so I could post pictures. But the West Texas wind kept the students from being able to light the candles. So . . . just try to imagine it. Most years it’s 1000 students sitting in the light as I speak. This year they were in the darkness. All right, in terms of scriptural imagery that isn’t quite as good. But it was still a good evening.
Mike, I’m curious as to what you mean by a “powerful time.” What do you see happening there? qb
A thousand 18-year-olds together, thinking about the direction of their lives, worshiping, building community, lighting candles and contemplating what it means to be the light of the world, listening to a call to real life.
Sounds like the Spirit was so strong no one could light their on fire.
Here is a picture of candlelight

When Leo Mazzone took over that O’s pitching staff, I predicted great things. This isn’t what I had in mind.
The most they scored all year, combined.

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. But when the West Texas wind blows out the candles, do 1,000 students curse the wind as they sit in darkness? I think not. The Orioles and their fans, on the other hand, may have been doing some mighty cursing as the Rangers poured it on! 30-3! Not since 1897! Yowsa!
No…the Rangers are NOT coming. They continue, as always, to be going, far, far away from what one could honestly say resembles a solid major league franchise. As a long-suffering Rangers fan, this week has been a great example of what it means to love the Rangers. First, they let Santana treat them like a bunch of B-league intramural players; then, they turn around and deliver a historical whipping to the O’s. How about some consistency guys? This, to me, is scandalous! Off with their heads!
The Rangers might have been coming, but they used up all of their hits for the rest of the year. Now what do they do? Maybe they can get A-Rod back!!!
Oh, so *that* is what they were doing.
It’s been 25 years since qb was 18, and my memory of the AFC’s Tuesday-night devotionals is fuzzy at best. Instead of thinking about the direction of my life, though, I’m pretty sure I was thinking about getting the directions and the keys to those coeds’ hearts across the way, over there, in the moonlight under that live oak…

Mike, I know what you mean. All those soon-to-be adults in one place contemplating God and direction. Their parents have said goodbye and now those choices are on their shoulders…who am I? who is God? who am I to God? where from here?
I love it!
A question that can’t be answered at 18.
No, it can’t be answered at 18 but it has to start somewhere. I am glad that they will asking and seeking and sometimes messing up and sometimes being so dead on that it is scary.
That candlelight devo at ACU was an amazing thing. I hope it stays relevant for many years to come.
Yes - there were numbers to had, but even the most focused people on obtaining numbers couldn’t help but feel a little of God’s Spirit swirling in that place.
Freedom ran rampant.
“Does this tell us more about the Rangers’ bats or the Orioles’ pitching staff?”
OR, is it a death rale we’re hearing? The Rangers will never be a successful team until they do something about the Texas heat, a pitcher killer. Case in point, Chris Young; couldn’t hack it in Arlington, but look at him in San Diego. [Of course, it could be the magic-in-the-air of San Diego living that's responsible too. Yay!! LOL]
A very important “btw” for you, Mike and Steve!
What great granpa pics! Beautiful babies!!!
Grrrr! I am NOT a morning person. What Steve and what nothing! Sorry Jack, very sorry for my bad!
I think that is just one of those freak things where all 9 guys are ripping the ball. I mean they scored 15 runs in the last two innings. That is unheard of in pros! It’s one of those deals that you only see once in a lifetime.
