I’m a big Frasier fan, that show and cast just cracks me up. I read that Kelsey Grammar is going to do another sitcom and I look forward to checking it out.

    What’s your vote?

  2. August 14, 2007

Oh, and movies. I love Pixar, and Monster’s Inc. may be the funniest. Love Billy Crystal as Mike whateverhislastnameis.

  3. August 14, 2007

I think Andy Griffith is a classic for all ages but I’m still laughing at some Seinfeld episodes.

    Cheers.

They should do a remake and base it on the local Starbucks. Sit down in just about any coffe shop and you’ll see all the Norms, Sams and Diannes pass through the store.

    MASH. Hands down.

  6. August 15, 2007

The Office… It’s the only comedy that could actually happen in reality.

  7. August 15, 2007

TV Comedies. Raymond is probably the only one that gives me a belly laugh at every episode. Also the early Sanford and Son episodes crack me up. Like most series that last a long time, the longer the show ran the less funny it became. There’s also a great BBC series called Are You Being Served that really tickles my funny bone.

Funniest Movie? That’s a hard one to narrow down. I love It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World – all of the stars of that era are in it … and even though it’s too long it is a great one. Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstien and Blazing Saddles both must be on my all-time funniest movies list.

I’m telling too much about myself here. Have a great day Mike!

    funniest TV show: Arrested Development.

funniest movie: Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

    Carisse:
I’m with you regarding MASH. Raymond is a close second. “What’s Up Doc” was a great movie and I laughed ’til I cried.

I’ll go with “The Cosby Show.” Right now, “The Office.” But we laughed to Cosby when it first came out; we’re still laughing with our fifteen-year-old son now. So much is just his physical comedy.

Fraiser and Lucy and Seinfeld, just can’t pick. MY husband who works in an office finds “Office” funny, they seem immature to me, but I love to hear him laugh.
Movies that I didn’t know what they were when I went, but fell out of my seat would have to be “Kings of Comedy”, and “Sideways”. I almost left during the first half hour of the first one, but we were at Universal Studios in Florida and the theater was cool.

  13. August 15, 2007

    1. Happy Days – grew up as a child on that one.
    2. Seinfeld – I’ll take a Seinfeld rerun 95% of the time today over another show.
    3. M.A.S.H – Parents didn’t let me watch this one when I was a kid, so I didn’t discover MASH till later in life.

And since you said “Funny Movie” instead of “Best Movie” I’ll go with Dumb and Dumber, my favorite “funny movie” of all time.

After not allowing my kids to watch “King of the Hill” when they were younger, I’ve become a huge fan of the show from late-night re-runs. I’m not sure it’s the best “ever”, but right now, for me, it’s one of the very best.

    1. T.V. Show — Dick Van Dyke and Get Smart (a tie)

Funniest movie? Both Father of the Bride films. Steve Martin and Martin Short are a class comedy pair.

Also, the classic short of Laurel and Hardy moving the piano down those long stairs.

  17. August 15, 2007

    Mystery Science Theater 3000.

  18. August 15, 2007

    Raymond. Tombstone.

Andy Griffin, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Cosby, and for those old enough to remember something called RADIO there was Fibber McGee ~ all all these proved you can have humor and be successful without being crude and vulgar!

  21. August 15, 2007

TV – seinfeld, the office (US), and the Cosby show – there’s nothing funnier than real life.

    Movie – no idea.

  22. August 15, 2007

When I was younger, “The Muppet Show” consistently made me laugh. Today, “Seinfeld” (even episodes I have seen a dozen times), and “The Office”.

As far as a movie goes, how can I pick just one… “Christmas Vacation,” “Meet the Parents,” “Groundhog Day,” “Monty Python’s: Holy Grail,” etc…

  23. August 15, 2007

TV – Home Improvement. The only show I cared enough about to buy on DVD.

Movie – The Princess Bride and Airplane.

Funniest tv show: “Get A Life”. Early Fox network show that was not on very long.
Funniest movie: “Animal House”. Changed the way many of us looked at college, including a few of you who regularly blog on here.

Funniest 3 seasons of TV: Arrested Development
Funniest w/out limitation of being 3 seasons: Seasons 1-10ish of The Simpsons

Funniest movie: Man I’m not sure… I think truly hilarious moments happen in so many different genres. I’d want to throw in things like Christopher Walken’s scene in Pulp Fiction. I’d list Dr. Strangelove, and some of the ben still/owen wilson/will ferrell/vince vaughn movies: Meet The Fockers, Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, Talladega Nights.

Then I’d also throw in Austin Powers 2. And also, I Hear Huckabees. And Little Miss Sunshine.

I’m more and more convinced that humor is so idiosyncratic and temporal that it’s almost too hard to talk about.

  27. August 15, 2007

Television: The Monkees (which I’m currently watching on DVD), Psych (on the USA network–see their website for details–an hilarious detective show with LOADS of pop-culture references, and its clean), Arrested Development, Cosby, MASH, Ren & Stimpy, Salute Your Shorts (old Nickelodeon show).

Film: Blazing Saddles, Muppets from Space, Napoleon Dynamite, Shrek, The Incredibles, Young Frankenstein, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion, The Wedding Singer.

    I’m sure there are more.

I want to see the demographics of this list of commenters. I’m partial to Andy Griffith. Barney Fife lives on in syndication worldwide. Nip it, Nip it, Nip it. The first time I saw “Dumb and Dumber” I couldn’t breathe. It should be a classic right up there with “Gone With The Wind.”

TV—The Simpsons or right now, The Office. Love both of them.
    Movie—Planes, Trains & Automobiles

  33. August 15, 2007

We love The Office, and Everybody Loves Raymond is so DEAD ON that is almost not funny at times, but I still laugh at the episodes I have seen tons of times. I agree that The Cosby Show is still hilarious and agree with the person who said Arrested Development and would add Curb Your Enthusiasm to it.
Wow, I didn’t really narrow that down at all…but I think the common thread definitely seems to be the comedies that are so parallel to real life. It is good to watch and see that everyone’s family is screwed up and those situations that end up being the funniest seem to be those that would be the most incredibly awkward in real life.

    Mike -

I haven’t commented in quite a long while, but am forced to respond to these teasing questions because I need some laughs today, myself, and might have to get my series DVDs out to watch of my all time favorite comedy show on TV – none other than ALF. The link takes you to Wikipedia, that font of information, which tells you doubters all about the show.

You can now get the first three or four years of the series on DVDs, which I have and have watched them with the grandkids, who absolutely were hysterical with laughter at how funny ALF was.

The best British comedy series had a short run of 12, but they are all hilarious to. Fawlty Towers starring John Cleese. Speaking of which, I like the Monty Python movies the best for humor, especially “The Life of Brian,” who was supposed to have been born on the same day Jesus was. It has a lot of Biblical references in it and is hilariously funny.

Cheers & Blessings to you all today! Dee (the Dee of Finding Direction: The Wind Vane Chronicles)

For me, no question, the best sitcom ever is still M*A*S*H. And the funniest movie is RAISING ARIZONA.

  37. August 15, 2007

Seinfeld. It’s the reason my favorite thing to say is “You can stuff your sorries in a sack, mister!”

Three Amigos. Try to top it. You can’t.

Funniest movie is, was, and forever will be — world without end, amen — “Young Frankenstein.”

    TV:

70s – The first 5 seasons of MASH (Before Alan Alda got TOO political)
80s – Night Court (Except for the first two seasons. Once Mac and Christine arrived, it was all good. And Dan Fielding is one of the funniest characters ever)
90s – Friends (Yes, Friends. Not Seinfeld)
00s – Scrubs (I laugh out loud at something every single episode)

    Movie:

    Dodgeball

Movie…. the dance lesson scene from Hitch… I’ve laughed until I cried watching that scene over and over…. “Q-tip, Q-tip, throw it away…. you just can’t stop it….”

  42. August 15, 2007

    Ooh, this is tough

    Comedies:

I hate to diss the classics, like Andy Griffith and Cosby, but my favorite sitcoms ever have to be

    Sports Night (only 2 seasons)

    and Scrubs

    Planes, Trains & Automobiles

  45. August 15, 2007

Seinfeld. Our daughters tolerate me because I am always relating an episode to something they tell is happening in their life. Did anyone see Rat Race? Silly…but hilarious…and of course The Jerk is just classic crazy Steve Martin. “All I need is this…

Arrested Development is/was HILARIOUS!! I can’t get enough and it brought back that adolescent crush I had on Jason Bateman.

I have to say though, Will & Grace is my favorite of all time. I’m guessing I’m not the only one here. Maybe just the only one who will admit (confess) it.

I just can’t name one movie because what I usually remember are the scenes that make me laugh uncontrolably when I least expected to.
