    TV: Grounded For Life
I didn’t see this show when it was originally on, but it’s now on ABC Family. We love it! The Andy Griffith shows are hilarious too – my favorite is the one with the escaped women convicts and they tie up Floyd and Barney. “If those hamburgers burn Al . . . ”

Movie: I love all the Chevy Chase “Vacation” movies. Also a big favorite: “No Time for Sargents,” another Andy Griffith movie. VERY funny!! If you haven’t seen it, you should search it out.

    Seinfeld – best TV Comedy

Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery – Funniest Movie (I Know, it’s so bad!)

  7. August 15, 2007

ANDY GRIFFITH, no question! You can watch it with the WHOLE family. What comedy can you say that about today? Funniest movie is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”.

  8. August 15, 2007

TV – I agree with “…all of Newhart’s shows” as well as Cosby’s.

Movie – Where’s Poppa and The Trouble with Harry [original version]

I watch and enjoy lots of funny shows and movies with only a smile now and then, but I just cannot watch Seinfeld or Raymond without laughing out loud. Both shoes are great ways for me to keep the day’s worries at bay when bedtime comes. You know what they say about the “best medicine.”

Actually I classify Seinfeld and Raymond as “shows” and not “shoes.

  11. August 15, 2007

Everything I would list has already been listed. So let me add two other funny TV shows: The American Whose Line is it Anyway (only American version of a BBC show I find funnier) and Spin City (funnier with Michael J. Fox, but not too bad with Charlie Sheen).
Another funny movie I didn’t notice (sorry if someone added it): Happy Gilmore (Sandler’s funniest)

  12. August 15, 2007

    TV Comedy, Frasier.

  13. August 15, 2007

    Funniest Movie: Office Space

  14. August 15, 2007

For me Seinfeld and The Wedding Singer
For my husband its Seinfeld and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Best episode is a tie between Cave Dwellers and Pod People.

  15. August 15, 2007

TV: Seinfeld / Frasier since I always try to still watch the reruns.

Movie: First to come to mind are “The Jerk” and “Dumb and Dumber”, however, the most quoted in my circle of friends is by far “Caddyshack”.

  16. August 15, 2007

Not much of a sitcom girl, but Frasier and King of Queens (I think Kevin James is hilarious).

Actually I laugh out loud more at Ellen DeGeneris than anyone, whether she is on her talk show, a movie or a sitcom

Black & White Andy Griffith Shows (in my opinion, never been better overall chemistry on a sitcom set)

In addition to some of the funniest movies already mentioned, I would add “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”

I’ve never posted here before, but the absolutely funniest TV show is Mama’s Family. It almost makes me want to pay for cable. I agree with whoever posted Father of the Bride 1 and 2. Those movies are wonderfully amusing.

T.V. show – Cheers. I actually dragged my wife to Boston for a week long vacation just to see the Cheers bar…oh, and see that other history stuff too.

King of Queens is good too and very underrated…great cast…similar to Cheers in my book.

TV: Andy Griffith . . . but only with Barney. Fife, not the purple dinosaur. And those classic Saturday Night Live shows with the original cast were hilarious.

Movie: The Peter Sellers “Pink Panther” movies. “See you when the case is sol-ved.”

    Andy Griffith for me.

Funniest movie would have to be “Tommy Boy”.

  24. August 16, 2007

I’ve done a quick scan but I don’t believe I’ve seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail for funniest movie.

For TV it used to be Seinfeld for me, but the Office is now king.

My favorite TV comedies are Seinfeld and Cheers

…and movies would be Fletch and Christmas Vacation. I also love Nacho Libre – I’ve only watched it once, but have listened to it about 10 times in the car when my kids watch it. “Did you tell him that they were the Lords cheeps?” Good stuff.

    Sitcom:
Malcolm in the Middle (Am I the only one who could discover that an overstuffed storage closet is really that 1/2 bath that you vaguely remember the realtor told you was in the house? Then not tell your kids about it….)
    Frasier(funny and smart)
Seinfeld Although, why can’t someone write a smart sitcom in which the main characters are not so integrity-impaired?

    Movie:
    Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
maybe Uncle Buck because who does not have a family member like Uncle Buck somewhere in the family tree
    Home Alone (the first time)

Andy Griffith is King but only the shows in Black and White and with Barney. Andy gets a bit annoyed with the whole Mayberry thing in color. I love Seinfeld and The Office also!
Movies: Most movies have been mentioned but I will add one,”What About Bob.” Every minister knows someone like Bob.

  28. August 16, 2007

“No soup for you!” Seinfeld, what else?

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. “Put another shrimp on the barbie!”

Movies – I’m going old school – Bringing up Baby with Katherine Hepburn & Cary Grant and Man’s Favorite Sport with Rock Hudson & Paula Prentiss. If you haven’t seen them, find a copy and I guarantee you they will make you laugh.

  30. August 16, 2007

It would be a tie between I Love Lucy and the Cosby show-thank goodness for TVLand and Nick at Nite!! :)

Richard-you beat me to it…Monty Python & the Holy Grail…classic!!! Definitely one of my favorite and funniest movies ever!! :)

  31. August 16, 2007

Oh, Richard-I just read up- DPS, Megan, greg and David Kirk did beat us to it yesterday-well, that is 6 votes!! :)

I also have to add the Mr. Bean movies..and Rat Race.

  32. August 16, 2007

    The Office

  33. August 16, 2007

TV: Keeping Up Appearances and/or The Red Green Show

    Film: Holy Grail

I’m not sure anyone has topped the Brits’ sense of humor.

TV show would be “I love Lucy”. Lucille Ball was so hysterical. Nowdays, i like to watch “Reba”, it always makes me laugh.

Funniest movie. I hate to admit this, but it would have to be “Ameican Pie”. It’s not a movie i would normally watch, but my husband likes it (he loves comedy, i’m not crazy about it). Also, “Meet the Parents” and especially the sequel, “Meet the Focker’s”

  35. August 16, 2007

    To jlane:

Seinfeld is funny ONLY because of their lack of integrity. They say the show was about nothing, but it was really about these flawed people and how their lives were empty. Or, about nothing. That’s WHY it was funny. I can’t stand shows about people who do the right thing. Boring!

All the best have been named, but what’s missing is 30 Rock which, while in it’s first season, was the funniest first season I’ve ever seen.

Movies: Anchorman, The Simpsons Movie was great, but Holy Grail probably takes the crown, for me. There’s so many it’s actually impossible to say.

“Seinfeld is funny ONLY because of their lack of integrity.”

I agree. However, I would still like to see an increase in shows with really smart humor that involve persons with basic values of honesty, loyalty, kindness, etc. Ever watched an inexperienced upper-middle-class Christian who tried to function in a ministry for the profoundly poor? That can be pretty funny.

  37. August 17, 2007

Funniest ever TV – the FIRST season of “Third Rock from the Sun” (closely followed by MASH and Seinfeld)

Funniest Movie – Monty Python & the Holy Grail “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!”

Seinfeld – Season 5 – The Marine Biologist…Best show of the series hands down.

George: So I started to walk into the water. I won’t lie to you boys, I
was terrified! But I pressed on and as I made my way passed the breakers a strange calm came over me. I don’t know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things but I tell you Jerry at that moment I was a marine biologist!

George: The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli!

Kramer: What is that a Titleist?

    A hole in one eh.

  44. August 28, 2007

    Movie: Tommy Boy
TV Show: Mystery Science Theatre (MST3K)

  45. August 28, 2007

For TV it would have to be Frasier and Fawlty Towers.

Both of these have funny physical and verbal comedy. I think a good Frasier episode is like a good George Bernard Shaw comedy. When I wince at what’s going to happen next, I know that comic relief is just around the corner.

But I do also like Andy Griffith and the Dick Van Dyke show. I can blame my wife for introducing me to both of these. We didn’t get them in Ireland when I was growing up there.

For movies: The Princess Bride is great. Also Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid with Steve Martin. Peter Sellers in the original Pink Panther.

For radio: The Goons on British radio.
