Shark Week

How fortuitous that it’s been Shark Week on some TV station (Discovery Channel?). The kids have had it running nonstop — in between our visits to the beach. Also last weekend they had a shark tournament right off the coast of Pensacola Beach here and the paper carried pictures of monsters — MONSTERS — that were caught. One was a nearly-600-pound tiger shark with a head the size of a silo.

Tomorrow is the day. “Bourne Ultimatum” finally comes out. Chris and I will catch one of the first showings.

Finished up a couple books. Now just starting KITE RUNNER. Thanks to those of you who suggested it.

It’s pretty hard to go wrong with shark week. It’s a regular at our house. If we miss it … we catch it later on the DVR.

Be careful while surfing out there… :)

Juliana really bragged on Kite Runner. I’m looking forward to reading it and the sequel also.

Enjoy your time down the road from me. I am glad that you all attracted the sharks this week.

The Kite Runner is a great book, and so is A Thousand Splendid Suns. Mr. Hosseini has a gift for storytelling, and gives you enough background about what’s going on without getting political.

Finished a couple of books? No titles? Aaaaaahhhh! Come on now, share the joy. ;-)

Dude… we’ve been mixing in the studio all day (I am losing my mind) and had the discovery channel on–muted. If I see one more shark bitten leg I’m gonna PUKE. Seriously…move on, people. Let’s see like a shark bitten face, hand, or rear. I’m over the raw leg bit. (did I mention I’m losing my mind?)

Mike, I can’t wait for you to finish The Kite Runner. That is a great book…can’t wait to hear what you think.

Did you ever watch man vs. wild on the Discovery Channel?

  10. 10 Zach Sheets

Mike, you should maybe try, “Into Thin Air.” It’s a great book.

  11. 11 Larry James

Tell me if I’m wrong, but I expect Kite Runner with get to you, Mike.

I grew up on the beach and surfed. The only thing that bothered me was sea lice until I saw Jaws. I could have been a world contender.

Alana and I will also see “Bourne Ultimatum”

“If you where in your office we would be having this conversation face to face.”

I’m knee-deep in “A Thousand Splendid Suns” at the moment. Also bought seven books at Goodwill last night, so I’m set for a while!

Enjoy P’cola Beach. Go see my buddies at First City or Gateway while you’re there.

    “without getting political”?

I haven’t read the book yet (it’s on my to-read list), but is this really true? Seems rather impossible to describe the situation in Afghanistan “without getting political.”

Maybe you meant something more specific with your statement.

    Peace.

Julia and I caught “Nancy Drew” on opening day.

Somehow, that just doesn’t sound as cool.

Discovery Channel is where its at these days! Dirty Jobs, Build it Bigger, Deadliest Catch, Shark Week.

If only they could get Chris Hanson to interview the sharks and shame them for preying on innocent seals!

BTW> Did anyone catch the episode on Great Whites that chase seals up from the bottom and jump like 8 feet out of the water? How would you like to have a Great White in your boat with you?

Kite runner, wow! Hard and lovely. Emotionally draining.

We don’t have cable, but just bought the Shark Week box set. Showed 2 actually attacks caught on camera. Unbelievable footage! The more detailed, graphic, and (actually) professionally filmed was a Bull shark attack. The second amateur video was a Great White. Couldn’t believe the size! Terribly scary stuff.

Just saw Bourne. First time in several years that the whole family went to a movie together. Of course, our son (16) and his friend was several rows behind mom, dad, and sister and drove himself to the theater in his car that he just started driving on Saturday. But we’ll still count it.

I won’t give much away…..it was very good!

Saw Bourne with my 14 year old. It was great. He (Bourne)would do great in eihter Fear Factor or UFC.

It is always Shark week at our house. Our boys love anything sharks. As far as Bourne, I am going to get the wait and get the special edition box set with all 3 movies! I love watch all the bonus features.

Wise words: “Live every week like it’s Shark Week.” –Tracy Morgan, 30 Rock.

  23. 23 Laura Tucker

I just meant that the book did not get bogged down in the politics so much that it got in the way of the story.
Books like this remind me of how blessed I am to live where I do.
    Laura

  24. 24 Matthew Morine

I can’t watch it, going to the beach soon.
