We played our first game at the state tournament in Waco this morning in the muggy heat. We defeated the Section 1 champions from Lubbock, 17-3. Game two will be tomorrow against the winner of the Del Mar - Eagle Pass game this afternoon.
Here’s our team:

Go, Team!
Thanks, Mom. Wish you and Dad could be here. Know you would be if you could.
This tournament is always run so well.
At Sectionals in Ft. Worth, there was a controversy in the final game of the losers’ bracket. The winner of the Dallas district — from Sulpher Springs, I believe — was playing the host Ft. Worth team.
When the Dallas pitcher went one pitch over the max (a mistake on the Dallas coach’s part), the Ft. Worth coach walked out and protested the game. It ended right there.
The scorekeeper (from the Ft. Worth league) didn’t stop the pitcher before he became ineligible.
In the coach’s meeting before the Waco tournament, they said that they will not allow a pitcher to become ineligible. It isn’t a test of a team’s ability to keep pitch count; it’s an attempt to protect a pitcher’s arm. And, the guy in charge said, it is also the responsibility of the opposing coaches, in the name of sportsmanship, to stop the other pitcher from becoming ineligible. In other words, if you know the other team’s pitcher is about to go over the pitch count, it’s your responsibility to stop him from doing so.
Chris–Would love to be there and see you play in another game. We are proud of you…and the work your dad has done. Love, papa
Welcome to our muggy but green city! We have had a lot of rain this year. Thought of you guys this morning! Hope to catch part of your game Monday!
PS If you are looking for good eats with the team try Rudy’s (on 35 south of Baylor, Valley Mills exit) Ninfa’s (off University Parks and Franklin downtown in the “warehouse” restraunts) or Brazos Steak House (on MLK other side of the river and down a ways). You and Diane would probably enjoy the Olive Branch (down town) El Siete Mares (1915 Dutton..looks like a whole in the wall but has AWESOME Mexican Seafoood) or Panerea Bread in Central Texas Marketplace(Hwy 6 and 35) They have a Books-a-Million and Cold Stone there too! OH, I almost forgot, if you take Waco Drive out of dowtown towards McGregor, you will find a B&N (complete with a Starbucks 4 Diane) on the righta few blocks before the mall. Call us if we can help you navigate around!
Reese and I are wishing we could be there too!! She’s not the biggest fan of her carseat yet…we’ll work on that. Missing you all…and hoping for another victory tomorrow!
17-3? Brings to mind the comment I made when you talked about them winning their season opener 19-0 or something outrageous like that: why aren’t some of your kids playing for the Rangers?
We’re rooting for you here at home! I loved talking to Diane today and hearing the excitement in her voice. Sounds like those boys are having a great time! Geoff is asking a million questions about the situation in your comment. I foresee a conversation in the atrium in your future.
Last time I was in Waco, Nichole won State in the 100 meters. Fun times. Don’t forget to stop and smell the victory.
17-3
Jenna - We loved having Matt here. I know that made the weekend a little harder at home, so thanks! Can’t wait to get our hands on Reese again.
We lost yesterday to Del Mar. So today we play Lubbock again in the finals of the losers’ bracket.
