Ian,

You are right. Thanks for your insight. Humility is the most endearing quality. I need a fair helping of it.

I am in the middle of a major depression and my thoughts are clouded by this lens. Maybe I should quit commenting until till this passes.

I guess my comments get as close to true transparency as as one can. It all boils down to if gives an effe or not.

Love your blog be more radical. I know it is within you. Not for the sake of being radical but for the sake of of hope to a shitty world.

Mike,

You know I have no point of reference to judge your lopsided victories except I was on the losing end of a lot of those.

You do not deserve warrant my criticism. I know baseball can change in an instant and the mercy rule is there for a reason. I applaud you for letting your son ful]ly know you are on his side. As you told me before this is the most important thing. You have done that.

I have criticized, please forgive me. I just saw the 17-3 score and forgot how easy that is to accomplish at any level given a "roll." Take when you can get it and be merciful when you can. That is all I was trying to say and did an extremely poor job of it.

Congratulations on your new granddaughter. You are both looking good. As for negative comments on the baseball game, I have yet to run into a 13 year old that didn't need a little humbling. Too many people are hung up on boosting self-esteem when what is really needed is more humility in the world. And I wouldn't worry if your son wins the championship either; he will have lots of opportunities to not win too. God bless.

I guess in light of my comment (except truely cute baby), keep beating people 18-4. It does wonders for 13-14 year olds later in life. Granted, you never really know you have it hand until 18-4. Hell beat 'em 20-4. Teach 'em a real lesson.

Nothing like getting the crap beat out you at 13 to make you a winner in life. Keep up the good Christian work.

24 years ago I was on a tournament tour similar to the one you are reporting. Keep the baseball reports coming.

Oh, sure, keep the granddaughter posts coming as well.

So sweet and so loved.
I have pictures I looked at just like those. My babies are 40,38, & 37. I can still remember the day we took each of the pictures, they are just special days.

Cute kid!

On the sports note. My girl plays select soccer in Washington. They played in a tournament last weekend and got "drilled" every single game. They played against 4 premier teams (1 level up) and 3 games they were down 1 girl with no substitutes and the other game they were down 2 players with no substitutes. They never quit trying. They even scored and spent a large majority of time on offense. They never played "defeated."

They got their ass handed to them 4 times but in my mind they won 4 times. I could not have prouder and had a better time watching "...filling the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,..." (IF by Rudyard Kipling) It brought much needed joy to my life right now.

She couldn't understand why I cried tears of joy and called her a winner when they just got beat 8-0. I wish I had her heart. Praise someone who won't "tap out". Let them know the heart that requires. Let then them know that says volumes about their character.

So weird....I can't tell who she looks like. (Why do we even play the "Who-the-Baby-Looks-Like Game" when every single baby is born, anyway? Maybe it's because we're told we look like our Heavenly Father.) ANYWAY....Even though I can't tell who she looks like, she looks hauntingly familiar to me. She must be the perfect mix of both Matt and Jenna. She's GORGEOUS. I'm with Amy: the snap-on wrist look is irresistible. Sort of like you put a rubber band on her wrist & forgot to take it off. LOVE it! Wish I could get my hands on her & squeeze her! (That goes for her mommy, too....miss you Jenna!)

Amy....now I know what you do after a long day at the out-of-town water park. Me too, obviously.

I always notice baby wrists. Andrew was a chunko like Reese and when he was about that age, a girl about 8 years old came up to me and asked me what was wrong with his hands. I told her he had snap on hands... like Legos. She got a very disturbed look on her face until I actually had to tell her I was kidding! Strangely enough, Andrew is just about the skinniest dude his age now. How does that happen?
