Father’s Day
2007 June 17
When I was 25 I became a father. We were finishing up our Memphis days at Harding Graduate School, and we were about to enter ministry in North Carolina.
Now 25 years later that son is a father. He’s just getting ready to enter his fourth (last!) year of medical school at Baylor.
So . . . for the first time to my son . . . Happy Father’s Day! (And to all the other dads who are readers of this blog.)

Happy Father’s Day, Mike!
How cool is that. I cannot wait until I can tell my son, Happy Father’s Day.
Happy father’s day son and grandson.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Dads, one and all.
Mike, after services there was no chance to give you a first-time grandfather’s Father’s Day hug, as much as I’d like to have done so. Among other things, Ruth is in town for the weekend, which as you can imagine, occupied most of my activities today.
I pray your Father’s Day is a blessed one, as I pray for all dads reading your blog. Yep! It’s YOUR blog.
It was a special day when my dad told me “happy father’s day” for the first time. Of course, then the preacher ruined it by talking about how terrible dad’s are and how they’d better suck it up and be better husbands and dads or else their children would grow up to hate them and their wives would leave them. Some places honor fathers on father’s day almost as much as mothers on mother’s day, but for some reason some preachers think that father’s day is a day to preach TO fathers instead of honoring them. Can you imagine the outcry if mothers were preached “at” instead of honored.
Fatherhood … what an amazing responsiblity and still what an honor. I’ve been blessed by fatherhood and challenged by it too. My prayer is that I simply live what I preach in front of my children.
Blessings and Happy Father’s Day!
Mike, thanks for the well-wish. Cara and Justin just had their third boy a week and a half ago. Clint isn’t married yet but I’m sure it won’t be too long before I a wishing him a happy father’s day.
Christian, we live in a time where the adult male is easily bashed. Let’s pray for father’s everywhere. May the bless them, Kent
