Surprise, surprise. It’s another glorious day in Malibu. I started speaking here in 1986 and haven’t missed a year since.
No matter how much you work on lectureship programs in other places, you can’t provide Malibu. Lots of sun; salt in the air; views of Catalina Island; mountains; fresh seafood.
Spiritual renewal can take place in a desert.
But who says it has to?
I was hoping to be there myself. But my son and his wife are there, along with a good portion of the tribe.
Enjoy!

Ahh, yes — the [fourth?] annual “Mike brags that he’s in Malibu” post. Becoming a tradition over here at PreacherMike.com.
You’re generating lots of love with this one, Mike. =)
Just watch out for those bird of paradise flowers, Mike.
Oh man, it’s still raining here. I don’t intend to miss again!
I enjoyed your lesson yesterday and plan to see you again in just a little bit. (of course, that view is tempting me to just sit in the glorious sun…)
Mike,
I was talking to Gina last night at Highland. I asked if you were in Malibu and if you had called about the great weather. Needless to say, she didn’t seem too thrilled to hear how nice it might be.
It’s been raining here in Abilene the last few days. And more is likely on the horizon next week. So, enjoy while you can. Having been to the Lectures there 3 times myself (2002-2004), I’m always jealous that I’m anywhere else but Malibu during the first week in May.
While you are enjoying a glorious day in Malibu, I was enjoying your granddaughter….mwah hahaha!
(not intended to make you feel bad or sad…just jealous!)
You and Randy keep on suffering for the sake of the gospel, Mike. Don’t let the agony tear you away from your work for the kingdom.
Right after his “evils of cursing” post, Mike hits us with the “I’m in Malibu and you’re likely someplace else” post. Interesting….
Felt any tremors lately? When they hit, just hang on and enjoy the ride!

To quote one of my favorite movies of all time, with great theological depth, “LUCKY!”
Shalom!
Just wait until you get back. The rain’s been so bad I’ve been contemplating building an ark. It’s sunny right now but the forecast says we’re just getting a couple days reprieve.
Thank you, Mike for allowing and seeking “the gift of preaching” everywhere you speak His Word. Thanks to the exercise of that gift at Pepperdine Lectureships, I became part of this great family of God called Highland when He moved me from the beauties of SoCA to the amazing prairie of West Texas.
[I still ache with homesickness every time you mention you're in Malibu. For shame!]
btw- the Pacific Ocean’s salt air is a great healer of allergies and asthma. Enjoy!!!
Jesus - he said so. He withdrew to the desert :-)!
Not that I’m bitter or anything.
I told David that I feel like I’m missing a huge party - hate that. Your class was so full, he couldn’t get in.
Dude — you’ve GOT to try the FHU lectures next year. There’s nothing like Henderson, Tennessee in February.
Dear Mike,
For those of us having withdrawal symptoms, you will have to post the best of the lectureship for us. Please tell Randy Harris that I am thankful he is not doing a sequel to last year!
You forgot to mention the babes in bikinis. I meant that comment for Mike, not you Matt!
Oh, I miss Malibu. Please be kind to the AWP pie ladies for me tonight…I was in charge of that fundraiser for two years and it almost killed me. I still don’t eat much pie years later. Yet, it was such an honor to be a part it, and I don’t regret a single sleepless night.
Suffering for the Lord in Malibu while I’m in Texas? Just for that, I’m boycotting your blog and I’m headed over to John Waddey’s.
Have a great time!
10 grand kids. Start giving them a shirt every year from Pepperdine. Granddaughter Number 1 just enrolled as a student at Pepperdine. Keep those shirts a coming.
Got to hear you at Pepperdine… didn’t make it in the first day - they had “FULL” signs up, but Thursday I got front row. What a pleasure.
And just for the record, when *I* was a Pep student, there weren’t no wave shuttles *hrmph*
:D
But now, *cough, sputter… how can it be?!* about 20 years later… I’m sure thankful they have them now!!!
Aaah…reminds me of words of M. Norvel Young that I typed every day I worked in his office…”sun washed, ocean kissed, mountain guarded, island girded, smog-free Malibu.”
Makes me miss Dr. Young.
