My parenting advise is talk and listen to them when they're little, so they will talk and listen to you when they're older. Also, be honest with them about your struggles and weaknesses.Don't pretend to be the perfect person, so that when their trials or mistakes come they will not be afraid to come to you. Plus remember disciplin is a part of love. Learning obedience is apart of life.First to your parents, later teachers and bossses and ultimately to God.

My seventh great grandchild is due latter part of August - so where do I start telling y'all about the joys of children, be they ours, theirs or their theirs? :)

And Rinn, you and Janey have a grandchild that makes my heart stop with joy - the way she looks for me and runs to give me a hug. What a treasure she is and a blessing to me. Thank you for sharing her with me.

Your comment about staying close by in March made me remember a Jubilee I attended some years back. The speaker had to suddenly leave because his wife was having a baby. Now, who was that?

Mike -

You are SO right and offer great advice. My baby boy will turn 37 in a month or so and his brother and sister are even older, but I still miss them as much as if it were yesterday that we were all together. I treasure, still, every minute of time I spend with each of them and they have made me very proud.

Also, Mark - the youngest - is having a baby girl in March, so I can really identify with you as an expectant granddad. In our case, this is number 10 for me, but it never loses its magic!

Children are such a blessing in life and so need to be loved and cared for. Just like what Pam did for little Mark in Ghana.

Cheers & Blessings to you all today! Dee

Our baby (5 1/2 months now) is such a blessing. I have a boy that will be 13 this year and a girl that will be 10. The little years go by so quickly; it's hard to appreciate them when they happen. The baby has given me a chance to relive them again at an older age. Nothing beats that toothless grin when she first sees me. Man, that is LOVE!

Josh the best advice I can give is what my dad said to me.
Go hunting "with" your kids and you wont have to go hunting "for" your kids. Get involved in whatever they like to do. Be it sports or chess or whatever. I will add to Michael and take it a step further. If you can't coach you can still attend practice as well as the games and realy support you child.

I remember working at Highland the first time and instantly recognizing 12-year-old Matt's voice when he would call for you. Working at Highland again a few years later, I couldn't distinguish Matt's voice from those of your college students who kept calling for you. "Can I tell him who's calling?" "Um...this is Matt."

Sometimes Julia (8) falls asleep against me and I try grasping the fact that her long, lanky body was once inside mine. Mind-boggling.

In two weeks, my basketball coaching career will end. It has been nothing but a blessing to have coached my son for four years and my daughter for four years. I will be forever grateful. The thing in which I am most thankful is that my children have enjoyed having me as their coach.

To young parents, if you can't coach your son or daughter, make it a point to attend their games. Then, be their biggest supporter and source of encouragement.

Yes, it does pass quickly. However, each stage with your children is one to enjoy and provides many reasons to celebrate. Make certain you do!

Josh,
Best advice I can give: START STUDYING ALGEBRA!
Fastbuck,
It's KIRK.
BMann,
Go back to work.
Mike,
Will we be seeing a new addition to "Mike Cope Sings The Classics"?
Good luck Chris and Kirk. Season might have been even better if you had not lost your defensive stopper. ( I hate it when contract negotiations get in the way of a season!)

Hey Mike,

I just found out last week that I'm going to be a dad...our FIRST baby is due in early October.

What advice, direction, wisdom, and/or counsel would you have for a first time dad?

Thanks for all you do!
