Well, it is indeed the Bears against the Colts in the Super Bowl. I’ve picked the Bears (think: defense), but I’d love to see Peyton win one. If it comes down to quarterbacks alone, then the Colts should win by about 50 points. Peyton vs. Rex Grossman? Please!
But it’s more than that. So I’ll stick with the Bears, including ACU safety Danieal Manning and Midland Lee/UT running back Cedric Benson.
From the Sporting News - 9/9/05:
Quote from DE Michael Haynes: “Bet you didn’t know this about Lovie Smith: He doesn’t swear. I have never heard him swear.”
Even though I am a life-long Bears fan, for this very simple reason, I have the deepest respect for Lovie Smith. I keep this quote in my briefcase and share it with coaches that I interact with frequently. Just wish some of them would try to make it their goal.
Bears 20, Colts 17.
I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart’s memories for the Bears. As a high school junior [amd eon ago] my hero was the quarterback for the Bears.
He, Ed Brown, was a graduate of my high school in north coastal California.
That year the Bears beat the Giants in NY in a raging ice/snow storm. The Giants attempted to have the win by the Bears reversed, saying they were not wearing proper equipment. Seems the Bears didn’t wear shoes with cleats, therefore had traction in the slippery surface of the field that the Giants didn’t have. The win was upheld and the Bears were won the championship [long before the Super Bowl was even thought of. Yipes!!]
All that to say, I’m going with the Bears all the way!!
Well, since i had New Orleans and New England in the Super Bowl, take this for what it is worth: if the two teams play their own games, I think the Colts win. They are a better all around team. On the other hand, Indy just may fall victim to we-just-beat-our nemesis syndrome. If they let down at all, the Bears will win. But on the other hand (I borrowed one from my wife), I remember another great player that people said wasn’t good enough to win the championship and he would never fully measure up to the greats of the game before him. Now, six championships later, Michael Jordan is undoubtedly the greatest player ever. Perhaps Peyton does the same thing.
All that being said, Colts over the Bears by a Vinatieri FG.
mike!!! COME ON!!! Why do did you pick the colts over the pats.. you hexed them! ALL of New England is sad we really detest Manning, but as a Christian I am supposed to love right? hehe
God Bless Mike!
I wonder whether the Colts special teams can keep Devon Hester out of the end zone. He might beat them singlehandedly.
It’ll be Colts winning 24-21, on the foot of Vinatieri with :04 seconds to go in the game. Vinatieri will go down in history as the greatest clutch kicker in NFL history (unlike Mike Vanderjagt previously of the Cowboys).
I would like to see Tony Dungy win a Super Bowl, but not Manning. After that nonsense with Eli Manning on draft day, I lost a lot of respect for the Manning family.
Besides that, Peyton went to Tennessee.
All of New England let out a collective sob at the end of the game last night. You could hear it from Bangor to Boston. The parallels between last night’s “biggest comeback/botched game in AFC history” and the “biggest comeback/botched series in Major League history” (Sox-Yanks) was eery. But as much as I hate to say it, Peyton’s a good guy and worthy of a trip to — and win at — the Super Bowl.
Tony Dungy is a devout Christian. Lovie Smith is also a Christian from Big Sandy, Texas. Tony taught Lovie to coach with composure, to not rely on profanity to motiivate or beat-down players mentally. The first two African American head coaches to be in the Super Bowl after 40 of ‘em. Wow - it doesn’t get much better.
But, the Colts will win - 24 - 14.
Well, I got have my prediction right with the Bears in the SuperBowl and I agree with the old cliche defense wins championships and I think the Bears have the better defense. So I say Da Bears.
Go Colts, but it is hard not to be for both of these teams with several men of Christian character.
Colts 34 -21.
Peace.
Colts.
As any sportsperson knows, good defense always beats good offense - and vice versa. So for this Super Bowl, the Colts offense will put the vice in the versa and crush the Bears.
Peyton Manning will be crowned football’s best current QB and will take his place next to Joe Montana as a great Super Bowl QB. It is his time.
We ain’t here to cause not trouble were just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle!
We are cheering for Payton Manning and the Colts.
Just because everyone says he cannot win the big one.
No way Peyton and company let this opportunity slip away. Da Bears seemed destined but the Colts will pave the way for Manning’s enshrinement in this years Super Bowl. Colts 31, Bears 21. When I watch Peyton orchestrate an offense on Sunday afternoons I think like I did when I used to watch Jordan maneuver on the court for the Bulls…I’m watching the greatest player to ever play the game in their respective sports; and its in my lifetime. Just my opinion of course…
Mike, Mike, Mike!! How can you NOT support the hometown boy, Dominic Rhodes, and the Colts?! Not to mention Justin Snow, the Colts long snapper, who is also Abilene born and bred. Both graduated from Cooper. Dominic’s proud momma works for me, so our house will be rootin’ for the Colts and wearing silver and blue! It’ll be the Colts over da Bears by 7.
Seriously, it is wonderful to see these two teams led by good men who are positive role models make it to the top!
Dominic had the fumble angel watching over him yesterday! So did Moroney with the Pats.
I love both coaches and both teams. Being an Indiana high school grad, I must support the Colts. You have to think that Manning and company will play with great confidence after finally beating the Pats in the playoffs. Remember, the AFC, as a whole, has been a lot tougher than the NFC this year. It just seems like this is the Colts’ year. Any other year, I would root for the Bears.
If I have a football hero, it’s Peyton Manning, who I think is the best quarterback ever, ever. There was nothing better than growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee, and watching Peyton play for my Tennessee Vols. I love the Colts because like I said before, I think they have the best QB ever. (The fact that my husband’s name is Colt, is icing.) Looking forward to a Colt’s victory in the Super Bowl!
P. Manning is a likable guy. He is hard to pull against.
Although I would also enjoy it if Grossman has a great game and all those who have been calling for his ouster have to parade him through town like Haman leading Mordecia.
I will be pulling for the Colts to win a close one.
If it comes down to quarterbacks alone, then the Colts should win by about 50 points. Peyton vs. Rex Grossman? Please!
Hmm…sports analysis too.
I rec don’t quit the day job Mike.
I have successfully picked almost every losing team. Too bad I picked them to win. I hope I don’t jinx them but I am picking the Colts on this one.
Bears, Colts, I dunno. I like ‘em both. Let me check my Bible. Here we are. “The cow will feed with the bear.” Ooh, that’s good. And Elijah set two bears on some punk kids. But then Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on a colt. I dunno. Guess I’ll go with Jesus who picked a colt!
Mike,
Just a reminder that when you refer to a U.T. running back, this could be misleading. There are at least several hundred thousand fans in the Volunteer State who think of another team, also wearing orange, when they hear the letters “U. T.” And a lot of them became fans of the U. T. to which I refer back in the mid-90s when a quarterback named Peyton started for four years.
Go Bears!
