XLI

I know you’re waiting for my predictions before you place your office bets:

Colts over Patriots
Bears over Saints

Bears over Colts

That would be a great Super Bowl for us (though we’re Colts fans), with Danieal Manning from ACU playing safety for the Bears (along with Cedric Benson from our district and from UT) and with Dominic Rhodes from Abilene Cooper at running back for the Colts.

By the way, is the new star of television advertising Peyton Manning? This is still one of my all-time favorites.

(Footnote: Holton, a junior at AHS and one of my main sources of sports info [I think he could "stump the Schwab"] tells me I’m way off. He says the Saints will beat the Patriots in XLI. What do you think?)

Something in my heart says Saints over Colts. I am note sure why especially given the Colts recent ability to “get by” the Pats.

  2. 2007 January 16

I like the idea of New Orleans overcoming their adversity and bringing a championship to their city. What a great story that would make.

  3. 2007 January 16

As a Bears fan, it has been great to see the contribution that Danieal Manning is making this year. I’ve not read much about his background, but am hopeful he is a quality individual that will be with the Bears for a long time. They have a defensive lineman that could use a solid mentor.

On a related note, we’ve also enjoyed following Torrence Daniels, the first HU player to make it to an NFL roster and play in a game with Philadelphia. Our son met “Tank” during a basketball camp at HU several years ago and was very impressed with this young man.

    Go Bears.

I’m sorry but even the Titans beat the Colts. Need I say more?

I am hoping for the Patriots to lose to the Saints. It is a long shot but it would be sweet.

    I think you’re 100% correct – GO BEARS!!!!!!

Manning finallly gets the monkey off his back and best of all a wonderful Christian gentleman, Tony Dungy, gets his first ring.

    Peace.

    Colts over Pats (fingers crossed)
    Saints over Bears

Sorry, da’ Bears are not that great. Grossman cannot play two good games in a row, thus, they will lose. I’m hoping for the Colts only because Billicek is not a kind person, but Brady is almost unbeatable.

A little off topic, but for 24 fans out there, here’s a funny blog on the first two episodes from Dave Barry.

Don’t bet against Belichick and Brady in the playoffs — they are 12-1.

  12. 2007 January 16

Pats beat the Bears in the Big Game. But Manning shines with 3 picks, one for a touchdown, a punt return for big yardage, and 4 solo tackles.

That’s how I envision things turning out. :)

The Saints win it all, and if that happens that should be just about enough to prove the existence of God.

    Bears over Pats in SB

They say wishing on a star will make it true. ;)

  17. 2007 January 16

Peyton is the star of advertising. That’s why the colts have to win! All the dominators are out of the picture, so I’m pulling for the underdogs, if the colts are still underdogs…Maybe we’ll get lucky and Daniel Manning will flash the “wildcat” sign and we can all cheer the bears on to victory.

But, if the colts don’t win, Peyton’s got a great career in acting ahead of him.

  18. 2007 January 16

Living near New Orleans and having endured about 40 something bad Saints years, we gotta be for the Saints all the way. Hope springs eternal.

    Patriots over the Colts
    Saints over the Bears

Saints beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl as an impossible dream come true for a lot of people.

    Geaux Saints, Geaux!!

    Colts will win 27 – 22.

Peyton’s commercials have be in the all time great celebrity commercials.

While I believe the Saints and Colts are the two best teams left, I think New Orleans will be playing New England in the Super Bowl. However unfair it may be, I will not pick Manning in a big game until he actually wins one of them. As for the Bears, the worse the weather is, the better off the Saints are. I know that may seem strange, but if McAllister and Bush need to carry the ball a total of 70 times, the Bears are in trouble.

Definitely hope the Colts take down the Pats. Belichick drives me crazy. I think momentum is on the side of the Saints.

Regarding Peyton, he does have some great commercials. Here is a neat story about his brother Cooper that makes me like him even more (notwithstanding the whole drop-trou scandal from several years ago).

If you think the Colts can actually beat the Patriots in a meaningful game, you may be using narcotics instead of believing authentically.

I’m a huge fan of Peyton, but he and A-Rod have the same problem: technically perfect, but unable to adapt to the chaos of crunch time. Brady is to Manning what Jeter is to A-Rod, i.e. best when everything’s going haywire around him and unafraid to fail. Manning/A-Rod play like they’re trying not to lose rather than to win.

In other words, more thanatocentric. If I was Jim Nantz, that’s what I’d ask Phil Simms this week.

  26. 2007 January 16

Boone – You’ve got the sports announcer connection, man. Get word to Nantz that we want the thanatocentric question asked.

And PLEASE don’t suggest again that Jeter is better than A-Rod. (It only encourages people like Joe Hays.) A-Rod plays for the wrong team.

  27. 2007 January 16

And PLEASE don’t suggest again that Jeter is better than A-Rod.

No one has to suggest it. From March through August, very few are as good as A-Rod. However, from August 31 on, “people like Joe Hays” are better than A-Rod. And you are right, he does play for the wrong team. He needs to go back to a team like the Rangers again, lose 90+ games a year, rack up stats, MVP’s, etc., and then people will get off his back.

Why are commenting about this leading up to the NFL’s Championship Weekend?

I really don’t want to be for the patriots, but I can’t help it because Tom Brady is just so darn cute!!

  29. 2007 January 16

We here in Louisiana are really wanting these Saints to come through. Going to games yearly in New Orleans with my dad makes it a team I want to see win, just so my dad is happy.

“I really don’t want to be for the patriots, but I can’t help it because Tom Brady is just so darn cute!!”

Puhleazze! And this coming from someone who grew up in Chicago. ;-)

Can’t we just all agree that Peyton (Manning) and Tony Dungy or (Sean) Payton and Drew (Brees – from Austin Westlake) really are due for rings. Not to mention long-suffering New Orleans fans.

    After
    - being baptized in the sea of Katrina and the cloud of Rita,
    - wandering for 40 years in the wilderness of poor seasons,
    - recovering their once demolished stadium tabernacle,
    - seeking a home where Bears and nephilim stalk,
    - changing leaders before their assault on the Promised Land . . .

The Saints now confront the walls of Jericho.

Grant, I think you are right on.

I hate the Patriots, but my wife asked me the other day why I loathe them, and I could only come up with like 2 reasons. Aren’t there more reasons for me to hate the Patriots? Can you help me find why my flesh recoils against them?

    Saints over the Bears

If Superbowl matchups have taught us anything, you need a reliable QB. This is the week Rex Grossman gives the media and critics plenty to write about. Drew Brees, on the other hand, has been solid and opportunistic throughout the year.

    Colts over the Pats

If the Colts and Manning don’t do it this year (on their home field), then it’s going to be many years before another shot. They already beat them once this year (at New England), so here’s to relying on their confidence. Manning, please play like we all know you are capable of.

    Colts over the Saints

I love the “feel-good story of the year.” But, I graduated from high school in Indiana in 1995. Seeing through all those tough years of…

“Lord, help our Colts”…cult Indiana radio classic through the 90’s…

Former coach Jim Mora’s hilarious quote…”playoffs! playoffs!?? don’t talk about playoffs! playoffs!?? are you kidding me!? playoffs!?”…

Jeff George and Jim Harbaugh as quarterbacks…tough years…

Letting go of Marshall Faulk…who’s idea was that anyway…

I’m hoping for justice. But, as long as Tom Brady is playing opposite the Colts, I’m never confident (with history on my side).

  36. 2007 January 16

I think its Peyton’s year to win it. And then I predict that he will also be the next James Bond.

  37. 2007 January 17

As a lifelong Bears fan, I’d love to see them win. We will if Good Rex shows up for the next 2 games.

Peyton will be unstoppable on his way to the first of 2 Super Bowl rings. He will remove the N.E. monkey off his back this week. Is there a nicer coach and human being than Tony Dungy?
