There’s a book I’ve been wanting to write for a decade. But I haven’t been ready.
Now I’m ready. I’m going to try to start working on it during “spare time” (ha!), and then the elders have given me some time this June to finish it.
It’s very important to me, and I’d appreciate your prayers. I’ll tell you more about it later.

You asked for it. You got it. (The antecedent of “you” is a few readers with a warped sense of humor.) “Mike Cope Sings the Classics” from the ‘05 Zoe Conference.
Thanks to Matt Maxwell, my tech guru, for getting this on youtube. He and I filmed the whole thing in about an hour, and then Grant Boone added the impromptu voice-over later.
My life is now complete! Thank you for letting me see that again!
One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen… The Gospel Advocate quote is the best!
nice vibrato
What breathtaking scenery. Lake Fort Phantom? The cows at the loop and South 14th. Almost as beautiful as the music itself. Well done.
Finally!!!!
This classic is so powerful it froze my PC. LOL
It’s as funny the second time around as it was the first. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Now, when are you going to make this available on CD for those of us that haven’t moved into the iPod or MP3 world as yet. [nice Chirstmas hint for anyone interested]
“The Gospel Advocate says: ‘Finally after 200 years a compelling argument for instruments in worship!’”
Absolutely hilarious. I don’t think they’ll be calling you for an article.
Hmpf! That should read “Christmas” - still yearning for edit feature here.
My favorite was the “Low in the Gravy Lay” scrolling up the screen.
Ha! Are you guys nuts! I think technology will eventually turn on us all.
Will you be showing more of this video at the Pepperdine Bible lectures this year?
Peace.
I just got chest bumped by an ecstatic 8th grader who just found out that AISD schools are closed today (rather than just delayed, which is what had been announced) because of ice and snow.
Abilene at 8:15 this morning just as school was called off:
To make you all feel better, we are under a sunshine advisory today in Melbourne, Florida. 80 degrees for the high.
Peace.
I laughed so hard that my Ebeneezer came right out my nose.
That is too funny. You need to try a duet with Ray Walker.
Priceless. Now we demand the one from this year. Please.
and I meant to say, May God richly bless your efforts on the book.
That’s really funny!
Mike,
Congrats to your estatic 8th grader!!
I’m loving it. Being a tropical flower, snow is a precious gift. Maybe this ‘gift’ will bring us a more moderate spring and summer than we suffered with this year.
PLEASE show this at the Pepperdine Lectures in May. I LOVE to laugh like this in the morning. Thanks!!
I’m crying, i’m laughing so hard. Maybe you can take Barney Fife’s place in the Mayberry Methodist church choir.
I do think the mail-order address should have been in “Beulah Land.”
Thank-you, thank-you! I’ve felt so out of the loop having never seen this before. Now, I feel like I can truly belong.
Next time please include “Just a Little Chocolate Jesus.” Kim says she was perplexed as a child because all of Jesus’ pictures in Sunday School were Caucasion and the song clearly stated that Jesus was African-American!
Now, I can truly say, I’ve seen it all. Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional. I’m glad I’m not the only silly old person.
HAHAH that was GREAT!!!
Christians are not supposed to have a sense of humor!!! lol j/k
Bravo Mike!
Oh man, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t…..I…i……..i……
Services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel On The Hill Funeral Home.
SO let me guess…ACU didn’t cancel their classes? I remember some slippery monings when our dear Christian college refused to give us a snow day! Happy day to the children AND teachers of AISD!!! Its a balmy 32 here in Waco!
Your youtube video is the best!!!!
Your book isn’t on “How to Sing the Classics” is it, by chance? Or on how to get your songs recorded and published with an official CofC logo on it somewhere. I’m sure there’s one (logo) around somewhere!
Too funny! That’s great, Mike. Really hilarious.
Mike,
This is the best. I operate a site for the independant movie industry…www.iklipz.com. Give me the word, and I’ll have your video up on the member content section of the site….Who knows, maybe the hollywood execs will contact you…you have talent wasting away..
SG, ACU actually cancelled 8:00 classes.
Mike, the video was great, I haven’t laughed that hard, that earlyin the morning, in a long time. Thanks.
The Randy Harris cameo was my favorite part.
The dogs were great, too. Were they singing along or howling a prayer of intercession?
Mike, you do realize the whole world watches youtube, so don’t be surprised if you get a call from Nance Grace.
Have you seen Wilford Maybree’s Famous Hymns at bluefishtv.com? You make out your check or money order to “Gladly, The Cross-Eyed Bear.”

Mike, I don’t know if you’ve heard about this article in the Tennessean yesterday that mentions Lipscomb and Lee Camp — but it was all over talk radio and the news yesterday in Nashville. I would love to hear your perspective on it, especially if you have a chance to actually talk to Camp and ask him in what context his comments were. Thanks…
I love it. Thanks for putting yourself out there for us to enjoy. I vote for this being shown at Pepperdine. I will be praying for your book - and looking forward to reading it.
My ears are bleeding.
I really hope the book does less damage.
Jenna,
He said, among other things:
“Christians must shed the idea that they need to promulgate a worldwide Christianity, he said.
“If I hold to a model of Jesus … what I’ve committed to in my baptism is loving my enemy,” Lee said. “I’m committed to not killing you, but to serving and honoring you. It’s an exclusive commitment to the way of Christ, not to the exclusive authority of Christ.”
He said WHAT?????
I guess that as well as these things, he would also like us to “shed” the words and commandments of Jesus in order to “get along” with others. HUH??
I’m just speechless!!
I think that you should check out what was really said and in the context in which it was said. There is a letter from Randy Lowry, the president of Lipscomb, and there is a statement from Lee Camp. It may be up on their website. I saw the letter and statement on Facebook. I didn’t read the article from the newspaper but I did hear that Lee was misquoted and the article was misleading about his intent. Like I said, I don’t know the whole story but check it out before pointing fingers or becoming angry or writing off Lee. I believe that he has so much to say to us and has already said so much that has been relevant and gospel-oriented and has spurred us on to good works.
Here is the Camp/Lowery response to the Tennessean article:

Great commercial Mike!
Oh thank you for making me laugh loudly at good old HU!
For a minute there I thought your next book was going to be titled “The Classics on Youtube”. I do love your video - absolutely hilarious!
I’m looking forward to hearing about your book, and will pray for God’s hand in your writing.
Mike,
I can’t believe that you weren’t in Time of Day! Maybe at the time you did not realize your giftedness.
My tomorrow will be spent in prayer and fasting for a recovery of my mind.
Thanks….I think.
That was absolutely the most precious thing I have ever seen. My face hurts from smiling. I will have to watch it again to read all the scrolling hymns. I was laughing so hard I missed them. Your unborn grandchild, my great niece, will certainly cherish this clip of their talented granpapa. I’ll be sure and save it.
I guess I am the only one that didn’t find this funny. It sounds a bit sacrilegious to me.
yeah, I see the response today. Thanks for the comments — I was glad that he took the time to write the response article. I kind of doubt talk radio in Nashville will be covering the clarification…
I woke up this a.m. with the refrain for “The Great Redeemer” stuck in my head (”He is eh — vree — thing — to — me — to — me”). Thanks a whole lot.
Cheers for including “Amazing Grace” to the tune of “Ghost Riders.” Jeers for excluding “Amazing Grace” to “I’d Like to Teach the World To Sing” (which includes the “He’s the real thing, Christ is” refrain).
I’m with you Chris. Sorry Mike~ my spouse thought so too……
I guess my best memories of my mother in law and grandmother are the singing of these songs with tears in their eyes…..
Didn’t find it very funny…
Different strokes for different folks……
Heeeee-larious! Good stuff, thanks Mike!
My husband has never heard you preach, although he’s heard me talk about you many a time. I’ve read passages from your blog to him, and sent him links to your blog when I wanted him to read something for himself. Is it bad that it took your video to make him want to bookmark your blog for himself? Oh, and my four year old loves signing the song Amazing Grace. I began singing it to him as a lullaby when he was an infant, and it’s one of his favorites. His head popped up and he came running when he heard your rendition(s). I’m afraid we’ll never sing it the same in our household again! Thanks for the laughs! (And I look forward to hearing about the new book. Prayers going up!)
I love it-you need to put part 2 up sometime, also!! I love the special appearance of the man in black!! Good times…
SG, ACU actually did cancel classes on Thursday-it was crazy, I could not believe it but we did have a snow day!! It was awesome and a great surprise!!
I love it-when are you putting the 2nd one up? I love Randy Harris in that one, too-good times…
SG, if you do read this-ACU actually did cancel classes on Thursday-I was completely shocked, but we all enjoyed the free snow day!!
Blessings~
so does this come in a portuguese version or do we have to wait until next Christmas for that?
That was really great. see you in about a month.
Hi Mike,
Just wanted to let you know that your amazing video was sent to an alumni email list of everyone who was in Chi Sigs back in your sponsoring days.
It’s been great keeping up with you via your blog. You’re still one of the most influential people in my life. Thanks for it all — especially the laughs with the video. I was sitting in my office with TEARS coming down my face!
Hi Mike,
Given your penchant for “the classics”, I thought you might enjoy my latest project…
http://www.cafepress.com/728b
That’s right, THE Classic you can wear….
Google is the best search engine
Nice!
Nice
interesting
Cool…
I started to click on the mark as inappropriate box, but then I couldn’t, I was laughing too hard.
When we were in Knights back in 1975 I knew that you had talent.
It took 32 years but you may have found your real calling.
I’m sorry I missed this when it first came out, but I enjoy keeping up with you on your blog.
