It must have taken a LONG time to get back to Abilene from Waco tonight. I was in my forties when I left Waco; now I’m in my fifties.
A few of our favorite scenes from the July 16 reception at Highland to mark the completion of our 15 years.

Lots of love from Wanda . . .

And from precious Hope:

Neat shirt and tie. Happy 50th.
What awesome pictures!!!! Beautiful!
Congrads on being 50. At our church we sing this version of the song on people’s birthdays….
“Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday God loves you. Happy Birthday to you!”
Mike,
Happy 50th birthday and 15th anniversary. I wish you another fifty years (assuming you want ‘em) even better than the first fifty. Your life serves as inspiration for a lot of people. So keep up the good, important work you are doing.
Mike,
Congratulations on joining many of us in the 50’s R Us group. From personal experience it is a great time in life. While some people consider the 50’s as “old”, it truly is a state of mind. (I personally believe that someone that lives as long as some of the early Old Testament men and women should be considered old!
Hope you have a wonderful 50th birthday and many more to celebrate with your personal family, your church family and the thousands of friends you have touched in the past.
Happy 50th, Mike! You’re only as old as you feel - and I’m sure as great shape as you are in, you don’t feel old! 50 didn’t bother me - 55 made me realize only 5 years to 60 - and I really don’t feel 55! Best wishes to you - and thanks for staying at Highland 15 years! Keep up the good work!
Happy Birthday, Mike! Hoping your transition from forties to fifties
will be a smooth one. From one who has gone before you, I think
50 was easier than 40. Enjoy your day!
Happy Birthday, Mike. It doesn’t seem possible 15 years have gone by since Victoria was praying for the Copes “who are not all together!” You have been a blessing to our lives and we are glad your family made the move to Abilene. Having been 50 once, myself, I can tell you that the body ages much faster than the mind. Do you think anyone told Judy Thomas what the kids at Highland said about your wardrobe?
thanks for showing us how to age gracefully! happy half century (oh, that sounds old!) karen r
Hello from Montreal, Canada.
Mike, I hope you have a wonderful birthday and anniversary, too.
Keep up the great work on your blog.
I stumbled across it today and wanted to let you know that I am encouraged to find such a decent and uplifting blog.
God bless you!
Mike, Happy 50th Birthday! I am so glad to be able to call you friend, you are a blessing to so many and I pray the Lord continues to bless you and for the next 50 years…………..
Is there an echo in here? lol Doubly loved the pics. What a beautiful family, both Cope and Highland!!
I pray your 50th was as joyful a milestone as anticipated. imho, you’ve entered one of the most exciting of our decades. Beautiful balance between good health, experience and maturity, and the joy of a clearer sight of the Gates of Home.
Happy 50th!!
Congratulations. But I think I might stay in my 30s a few more years
May blessings shower upon you as you have been a blessing to so many out here.
Shalom,
Bobby Valentine

Those last two photos are precious! Thousands of unspoken words of what a Christian family is.
Love it.
Thought to ponder….how old would you be if you didn’t have birthdays?
I’m still quite young, how about you?
May God continue to bless you. Happy Birthday. And I LOVE that last photo. I’ve been back to look at it 3 times.
Just stumbled in; Ministry is tough, but it looks like your in good hands.
My congratulations to you on your 50th birthday. A few months ago, I reached that milestone myself and just returned from a week long celebration in Colorade with hubby, our kids and grandkids. We went to the beach in Ocean City, MD when Jim turned 50 and to the mountains of Colorado for my 50th. Frankly, I think it is a great excuse to go on super vacations!
I know God has mighty things in store for you!
Are you just going to celebrate for a whole month? That’s exactly what I did…and so did my friend from Searcy, Beckie Weaver. She started her celebration with a trip to Disney World with all our girlfriends and I started mine with a trip to New York….We both had great birthday months. When we turn 60, we’re going to celebrate for the whole year! So enjoy every minute of your 50th birthday month!
Happy birthday, Mike! Now when are you going to update your blog?
Is it just a coincidence that you made the same post twice on your 50th birthday?? Oh no, it’s starting to happen already!!

Hmmmm… I think turning 50 has left our friend speechless.
