Sitting in a cube-shaped office, soaking in low-level radiation from a computer monitor while my skin grows increasingly pale under a few dim, flourescent lights, my answer is this:
You are TOOOO kind! If I were not too cheap to buy a lottery ticket, I would help you out by letting you know I had won. Because I am sure I would win.
I’m enjoying a beautiful Midwest Spring day - sunny & 70 degrees with blooming flowers & trees all around!
BTW - You had a post a while back about the movie ‘Supersize Me’. Well, I haven’t seen it yet, but I just went through the McD’s drive-thru for a cheeseburger (which isn’t listed on their menu!) I ask the lady how much it is for a cheeseburger & she tells me $1.15 with tax. And the DOUBLE cheeseburger? $1.10 with tax. Do they really want me to get fat? How are they making a profit that way?
I must agree with Tim, Mike. I know what you have to return to. Enjoy it while you can and after you return to the dust bowl if you need some good pictures of beauty I can send you some pictures of the ocean from down south. You can pick do you want pictures of the part of the ocean I can see from my balcony or pictures of the ocean half a block from the church building. You pick.
Definitely jealous, but spending time with Diane and Chris until 11:00 last night was priceless. I know that is 2 hours past your bedtime, but we missed you!
Mike, your entry qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment!!
As to the rest of you Abilene slanderers - I’ll raise 10 of your topographical spectacles by a handful of our beautiful people.
Abilene may not be the prettiest place I’ve ever lived, but it certainly is home to some of the dearest, sweetest, most cordial, God-loving people I’ve ever met anywhere.
Since the ocean will not be going with us to eternal Heaven, but beautiful, God-loving people will, guess which I’ll take! lol
I was enjoying the spring blossoms and gorgeous sunny weather today here in Grand Rapids and really appreciating the beauty of it all. It really amazes me what a beautiful world God gave us to live in - whether it’s Malibu or even Abilene (in it’s own way) - quite a nice gift for which I am extremely grateful.
My favorite scenery at Pepperdine was star-watching. Keep in mind this was 25 years ago, but…. I dined in a tiny hole in the wall restaurant next to Pat Harrington, handed Magic Johnson a t-shirt (don’t ask) watched Bruce Dern (he was a marathoner then) and Olivia-Newton John run around the Pepperdine track and lounged at the Pepperdine pool right next to the mom from Close Encounters of the Third Kind (not Terri Garr, the mom of the kid that got sucked out of the house). Yes, for some strange reason it makes you feel a little more important to rub shoulders with the beautiful crowd. Shallow? Yes.
Here in Monroe, Louisiana, my daily drive treats me to the sight of a bayou lined with moss-draped cypress trees. I’ve lived here since 1949, but that sight still gets me.
Last year I was at Pepperdine doing my best to have a heart attack. My very best friends in the world were accusing me of faking it. I told them that if I died my tombstone should read, “See I Told You I Was Sick!” I returned home only to have quadruple bypass surgery on Friday, May 13. This past year has changed everything about my life. Stuff I thought was important seems meaningless, but Jesus is only more real. This might sound crazy, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. So when I think of Pepperdine my mind goes in a totallty different direction than most. Have fun.
I’m taking in a view of the San Jacinto Monument, the distillation towers peppered acros the horizon and the barge traveling up the San Jacinto River. Oh, and my description wouldn’t be complete without a reference to the barely audible rumbing of the Exxon refinery just a few miles down the road. Now that’s beauty. I don’t know what I was thinking growing up in Alaska.
I don’t know what Chad was thinking posting that under my name. Says he did it by accident. I’m a Texas girl. He’s the one who grew up eating seal meat. Not me.
Mt. St. Helens, Pikes Peak, moss covered bayous, spring blossoms - how can you poor souls live with so much ugliness. I have the blessing of looking at bumper-to-bumper traffic on 635/LBJ almost every morning before 7am. If I am really lucky, the traffic will actually not even move (I think TxDOT intentionally stops the flow to make it safer for women to apply their make-up).
Just before I went to bed last night, I looked at the beautiful red rose my husband cut from the bush in our yard and placed in a vase on the nightstand beside the bed. Does it get any more beautiful than that?
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
It says nothing in there about the view….lucky for me. *grin*
Yeah, but did The Edge hold the door for you at Starbucks?
sounds nice but i bet it does not hold a candle to the reflection of the Buffalo Gap mountains off of lake Abilene!
It has been 3 years since I was at Pepperdine last and I remember the beauty and the fellowship. Miss it for sure! Please enjoy it for all of us!
At first I was jealous, but then I remembered what you are going back to, and once again I pity you.
Sitting in a cube-shaped office, soaking in low-level radiation from a computer monitor while my skin grows increasingly pale under a few dim, flourescent lights, my answer is this:
“Not so much, no.”
It’s hard enough being content in all circumstances when you live in Amarillo, Mike. Thanks - that just ruined my day!
We were in San Diego during Spring Break and I just know, without a shadow of a doubt that God is calling us to ministry in Southern California….:-)
You are TOOOO kind! If I were not too cheap to buy a lottery ticket, I would help you out by letting you know I had won. Because I am sure I would win.
Enjoy.

He’s blogging his first year experience and posting some pictures although it was a bit foggy/smoggy yesterday for his first day.
Also see these two blogs from very good friends of mine for their thoughts on the week.

Having been there, Mike and not making it this year, any jot or scrap you can throw our way is good for me.
I spend one day a week doing computer tech work for Bayside High School and I’m up to my knees in computer repair and network solutions today.
Please keep us posted and share your highlights.
Peace.
On my drive home, I see Mt Hood, Mt Adams and Mt St Helen’s while crossing the Columbia River.
Sure beats Abilene (lived there, not going back) and I am home!

That’s just flat out MEAN! I will say, though, we had a great middle of the night thunderstorm last night! Love it!
Definitely jealous, but spending time with Diane and Chris until 11:00 last night was priceless. I know that is 2 hours past your bedtime, but we missed you!
Now if you REALLY want to rub it in, you should bring a digital camera and start throwing pictures at us.
Punk.

Mike, it’s still cruel and unusual punishment.
Help, schmelp. I get to look at Pikes Peak every day…

My answer - Thanks for trying anyway.
You’re a mean man… but if I remember you have a pretty big event coming up this summer and we’ll all remember this!

There are way too many people in the Metroplex.
Cope, you are so wrong man! This is just wrong!
The Pacific? Mountains? Trees? Exotic plants? Pictures . . . I want pictures!
Today was a beautiful day in the Houston area with a tempature of 88F and 99 % humidity with a sweat index of slimy! You dog!
Just before I went to bed last night, I looked at the beautiful red rose my husband cut from the bush in our yard and placed in a vase on the nightstand beside the bed. Does it get any more beautiful than that?
Enjoy Mike, both the beauty of God’s creation and the beauty of being with His people!
Now as to oceans, well, I get to see that everyday!
It’s just the east rather than the west coast.
Please, please pray for my friend Katy’s dad. You can learn more about him here:

Please take just a second and pray for this family.

By the way, my favorite Malibu activity:
Peace.
