Yesterday I spoke at Pepperdine’s convocation (chapel). I think that’s the fourth time I’ve done it. Every time it’s been such a positive experience. The main session was in Firestone Fieldhouse; that was followed by a smaller meeting (200-300) in the chapel.
I’m so impressed with the direction of the school under Andy Benton’s leadership (along with, of course, the wise guidance of their provost, Darryl Tippens).
Traveling back home early this morning in time for a baseball game tonight.
Pepperdine! O Pepperdine! Is there any place like it on earth? Perhaps, but not with Restoration Movement connections.
How does one get on that chapel speaking list? Although, it’s a bit of a commute from Melbourne!
Peace and blessings on your return to Abilene.
One month from today, Lord willing, we should be up at the “walk of the Crosses”. It will for sure be one of the highlights of that week!
DU
No major university I have visited reflects the spirit of Christ better than Pepperdine University. President Benton is a most gracious man. The annual Bible Lectureship, directed by Jerry Rushford, is one of the finest forums, if not the finest, that I attend every year.
One of the great drawbacks of moving out here to Abilene - I can no longer attend the Pepperdine lectureship. It was always with reluctant heart and almost spiritual shock that I returned to the world after the time with so many fellow believers. And you Mike, were always on my “must hear” list, along with Ruebel and when possible, Max.
Praying for your safe return to us today!
I’m with you, Kathy. During the five years we lived up the coast from Malibu (Port Hueneme) I loved attending the Pepperdine lectureships. I keep telling myself I am going to go back for them. But, it’s so much easier to just live there and go than to make arrangements to come from far away. I miss it. I’ve been so thankful for the internet and it’s ability to let me hear speakers I only got to hear at Pepperdine. It helps make up for missing the lectureships - though you can’t beat climbing all those stairs and sitting in a room full of people to hear them.
how could you speak in the Firestone Fieldhouse after yesterdays post?
Oh Pepperdine, it rocks my face off.
Pepperdine Lectures have become my refueling station, the long year and the tolls of life get put into proper perspective that week.
