Are you telling us that you've read GOD'S EMPOWERING PRESENCE more than once? It's 900 pages!

I would add THE JESUS I NEVER KNEW by Philip Yancey and NOT THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE by Cornelius Plantinga.

And I'll proudly be at Tulsa this year -- teaching no less!

CFOURMAY, be sure to take part in Memorial Drive's activities for college students during the workshop, including a bonfire Friday night and another worship time Saturday night. The college student presence at the Workshop is growing steadily and there are some great things put together for that community. (At least I'm pretty sure they'll be doing these things again this year.)

I don't know about an Austin plant from Oak Hills, but Journey Fellowship is an Oak Hills satellite church in San Antonio. You can visit their web site here.

When I returned from 30 years on Mars [read Mexico City and other locations within the Republic] what did I find, much to my delight, but a whole bevvy of bright, upwards thinking preachers in the Churches of Christ. Names I'd never heard until I returned from my 30-year sojourn in Latin America; Mike Cope, Max Lucado, Rubel Shelley, Rick Atchley, Jeff Walling, et al.

What a joy to hear them and now they are all going to be together in the Tulsa Workshops, plus others of their ilk and deep love for our LORD.

How I wish I could attend, but tight purse strings for the next few months just will not permit travel expenses. But prayers need no passports, nor airline tickets, nor hotel reservations. So I'll be traveling with y'all in prayer, believe me!!

As far as books are concerned, plus many listed, may I add that of course I'm addicted to Max's writings, Mike's, and Rubel's, also Philip Yancey's including The Jesus I Never Knew - as well as his two books co-authored with Dr. Paul Brand, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made and In His Image - Philip Edgcumbe Hughes The Book of the Revelation - as well as most everything written by C S Lewis - and Theresa McKenna's The Hidden Mission Field. Full list too long to set down here.

However, I really need to add how much I enjoy browsing through some of my Dad's OLD reference books, only because they were his and due to my inordinate love of 'old' books. Many of the ideas set down in these books bring me to a revisiting of my childhood. Fortunately, [in some ways, sadly] since I'm a recovering legalist, PTL, these books no longer represent most of my beliefs, nor do they bring me to a closer relationship with Jesus. But they do bring sweet reminders of my dad. Memories just too dear to totally abandon.

Any thoughts out there on the Oak Hills church plant in the Austin area piping Max in via satellite on Sundays? I've heard nothing but good, but a few have said it's still a "little odd" delivering a sermon that way.

I am a college aged person who is hoping to make my first Tulsa Workshop. It sounds like an exciting event and I think this year will be a well remembered event with lots of potential to learn about God and how He works. Also it presents a great oppurtunity to praise God in song with some wonderful praise leaders.

Regarding your book list...

Some time back you mentioned "The Emotionally Healthy Church" by Peter Scazzero. I'm glad you did. Perhaps it doesn't rise to the level of many of the works on your list and the lists of others, but it does speak to many of the most pressing needs of churches large and small throughout the land.

I am so glad that Max Lucado (even with their name change) accepts his Church of Christ heritage to come and speak at a workshop for the churches of Christ.

Some people think he has rejected the Church of Christ to do whatever he wants with Oak Hills, but I think this is great to hear that he is still a part of "us".
