Several years I went to the National Prayer Breakfast. It was a good experience, but there was nothing there that year quite like Bono’s prophetic words this year.

I had linked to Bono’s comments through a U2 website and watched with amazement. He is a fresh perspective to the status quo of Washington. His words are inspiring and they always make me question just how much I am cocooned in my small world.
Some of my blogger friends and I plan on attending Monday morning, we didn’t need the enticement of donuts, but thanks for the treat.
I have watched the Bono clip several times now with several people and each time I am struck by his love and candidness - as well as his hesitancy of self, but not the message (sort of like every prophet I have read about in the OT).
Sorry I’ll miss you, Greg and Travis - I’ll be driving one of the shuttle vans for most of each Lectureship day.

See you, Tammy. Donuts are sort of a joke. I doubt if we’ll really entice anyone with Krispy Kremes. (Though if Deana shows up from Houston, I’ll know I was wrong.) We’ve just been thinking about the nature of blogging, though. It is a sort of community. Sometimes don’t you imagine that you’re connecting with people over Starbucks (coffee–yuk!) and donuts?
Bono’s speech is tremendously powerful. It’s an understatement to say we are sorry we won’t be in Abilene this year and at Highland tommorrow morning. We would have probably needed chains on the tires regardless - typical Lectureship weather. One more reason why Mark moved it to Fall?
As I read over the order of worship for your morning service, I started singing each song to myself. Because I think our own services may be cancelled(due to icy conditions), I’ll use that order to have my own worship time with God today. Thanks for printing it for all of us out in blog land. So wish I could be there in person! Sheryl’s voice makes my heart soar!

We’re singing “I Belong to Jesus?” Cool! I didn’t realize the CoC’s knew that one. Then again, Jernigan’s stuff always seems to arrive late in the Churches of Christ…probably waiting for an acapella arrangement. I’m still waiting on an arrangement of “Great is the Lord Almighty” that has all the verses instead of just the chorus.

The worship service sounds like heaven.
I made my nursing students watch Bono’s speech in class. Not sure they were as excited about it as I was. A few perked up.
My favorite parts are: 1. getting involved with what God is doing, because it’s already blessed and 2. God’s message to us about poverty.
It sounds like it is going to be an amazing service. What a great way to start Lectureship. I hate that I won’t be there to share in the wonderful worship that Zoe always brings to Highland. This is my first year since starting college to not attend Sing Song or Lectureship. I didn’t even realize Sing Song was this weekend until a few days ago–I guess that’s what happens when you move away from Abilene. I pray that everything goes well, both at Highland and during Lectureship. God Bless!
Two things about Bono’s speech.
He didn’t use the f-word, which is good.
More importantly, he confuses voluntary giving to church with compulsory taxation to support governments. The federal budget cannot be some sort of worldwide church collection or tithe precisely because it is forced and forced charity is no charity at all.
Regarding blogging–I have never met you but began reading your blog following last January’s accident. By the grace of God, I am one of the crevices that your Christianity has seeped into. I’ll think of you Monday morning when I drink my coffee and eat a donut in your honor.
One more thing about your blogging community–the Bono speech was on Larry James’ site the other day–a site I started reading because of you. Also, I’ve shared Albert Pujol’s site with some friends and family due to your influence.
