Answers to my own questions:

You know I love CCR, 3 Dog Night, and the Eagles, but is U2 the all-time best rock band? Probably not (Beatles), but amazing music and longevity.

Is Coldplay in that league? (Not yet, but university students have got me hooked on listening to them.)

What's the best Christmas song of all-time? ("O Holy Night" or Bing Crosby singing "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas")

Why does a good white preacher make you want to smile and nod your head and a good black preacher make you want to stand up, dance, and shout "preach it!"? (Same reason white churches can't quite clap right -- rhythm)

Why is college basketball ten times more entertaining than the NBA? (Smaller egos . . . or at least egos that haven't yet been completely fueled by big bucks from teams and corporations)

Not counting Stan Musial, who's the best player ever for the Cardinals? (Gibson . . . Ozzie . . . Gibson . . . Ozzie. Bob Gibson)

Is it possible that someday broccoli will be considered bad for you and donuts will be considered beneficial? (Hope springs eternal)

Who decided at some Christian colleges that they can have secular bands come play secular music but they can't have Christian bands come play Christian music? (Someone who wants the schools to look just plain silly)

What do women see in Dr. McDreamy (a cultural obsession I read about in USA Today)? What's that about? (Women will have to answer that one . . . just reporting what I've read in the USA Today, the SOURCE OF TRUTH.)

Best Christmas song? Probably Still, Still, Still as sung by Garrison Keillor. Beautiful tune, sweet lyrics and not all that common.

Best rock band? Gotta be RUSH.

And Christian Colleges? I have dibs for front row seats at the heavenly concert and I'll even save a few seats for those college board members (I wonder if Gabriel knows "Freebird"?).

Mike,

Even though I let you burn my two Coldplay cds, I don't think that they're anywhere near Coldplay as far as "all-time best rock band". And yes, U2, in my opinion is the greatest rock band ever. There are few bands that are more eclectic, especially vocally. There are few bands that have written more powerful lyrics than U2. I think that they're the best band of my generation, and I'd be willing to put them against your three as best bands ever.

Best Christmas song: O Come O Come Emmanuel (the selfish reason why I'm pushing for the singing of it Sunday). So appropriate for this Sunday.

Reason why college hoops (and sports in general) is better than the NBA: college players aren't in it for the money, they play for school pride. And there's so much parity with the 3-point shot and zone press defenses that small Cinderella schools can hang with the big schools.

Best Card ever: Bob Gibson. 1.12 ERA in 68. Nuff said

I'll Bite:

U2 for some, Beatles for others but far be it from me to discount the blues rock of the Stones.

Coldplay? Was that the band Paul McCartney was in after Wings?

I think it's the preacher choir in the first two rows. They get your blood flowing and then bring things to a crescendo. Every preacher should have his front row cheerleaders.

Uh, there's no whining in college basketball.

Ted Williams - He missed 3 years to WW2 and almost 2 years to the Korean War you do the math.

Donuts are beneficial that's why they call them "sinkers"

Christian Bands? The same ones that said it was okay to rock out to Van Halen but not Rich Mullins.

You have to ask that question?

Other greatest band nominees: Eagles, Styx, Chicago

Coldplay will have to wait.

Christmas song: Little Drummer Boy

White folks can't dance, especially white cofc folks.

NBA vs. NCAA: "The love of money is the root of all evil"

Best Cardinal? Who cares (said nicely)

Krispy Kreme has been found to cure hunger. Does that count?

Christian Colleges? "The love of money is the root of all evil"

Dr. McDreamy? He invented chocolate, right? My wife sure would love him.

Re: U2 - Anyone who seriously thinks there was a better band back there in their generation than U2 has a serious case of nostalgia overwhelming common sense! Come on, people! ;)

Re: NBA - Good point, but here's the key to becoming an NBA fan: Ignore the negative-obsessed media and start following teams and players that get it. Less Stephon Marbury, more Steve Nash.

-CCR, Bob Dylan, AC/DC to name a few
-O, Holy Night by Martina McBride
-Homiletic of all believers
-Zone Defense
-The OZ
-You sound like my mother who says, "Just wait, one day they'll say smoking is good for you."
-The same people who decided you could have a "Christian College" haven't seen one yet.
-He's risky, yet committed, bold, yet sensitive. Women don't like these guys in real life.

Without even thinking . . . ZZ Puck, I mean ZZ Top.

You from COFC will appreciate this story. I have been preaching in Florida for 21 years. At one funeral I did the funeral home director let me know that his mother who played the organ was sick. Knowing our church's background and music style he said, "Today we will have to to go Acapulco." I've never called vocal music Acapella since.

I liked Grey's Anatomy in the beginning, but now it is major "sexed up" and not the best viewing for adding virtues.
