My oldest brother Korey lived in Manhatten for a few years, and his first Christmas there the whole family flew to NYC. All five of us slept shoulder to shoulder in his tiny, yet expensive apartment. We woke up extra early for Macy's parade and when we got there wondered where everyone was... then realized that it's on Thanksgiving. What a great laugh! The Rogers family was all bundled up and ready to go... Whew, good memories. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm glad you picked the good, sturdy light poles to stand under.

I went to NYC in 9th grade. I saw Debbie Allen in "Sweet Charity," my very first punk rockers (this was 1986), a newly-refurbished Statue of Liberty and a pre-Oscar Tom Hanks sitting in a shoeshine stand. I was also in the audience at the Phil Donahue show. Pretty exciting stuff for a Beaumont girl. I hope to go back one day. Sounds like your trip was a lot of fun!

Macy's is great to watch but it's lousy to march. First of all it's long. Second, it's cold. And the worst is that you have to be in line ready to go at 3:00 and just stand there until it's time to go at 10:00! Of all the parades I've ever marched, Macy's was the worst...even worse than 2 New Orleans Mardi Gras parades in the same day! With all that being said, it's wonderful to watch, and it was especially good this year.

Wasn't Wicked totally awesome?? We saw the traveling cast in San Francisco this summer and I was just blown away. I had to settle for seeing Megan Hilty and Shoshanna Bean perform For Good during the parade this year. That song never fails to make me cry!

I'd love to do NYC sometime, but I'm such a small-town girl, I'd want someone experienced to show me around. I don't think I'd want the family to brave it alone.

Hey Mike !

Envy green simply is not a good color for me. ;) I absolutely LOVE New York!

Two things every American should HAVE to do, imho; live outside their own country for at least two years, and another two in New York, New York

I was blessed with three years in the Big Apple many, many years ago. I still miss and love it! I lived near 51st and Lexington, working at 555 Madison Ave., just across from Rockefeller Center, with an office window overlooking St. Patricks. Before that I lived in the West Village and worked on Wall Street. What a fascinating city!!!

And what a great mini-vacation for the three of you!
btw-below zero wind chill is my type of weather too. Yet, here we are out in the hot, dry prairie! How droll. :)

Hey! What kind of vacation are you giving Chris? In the airport at 5AM??? You've gotta be kidding me. LOL
I'm praying for safe return home, you three!

Ohh - I can't wait to see Wicked! I love the music & I really want to get up to Chicago to see it there. Hope you liked it! Sounds like you did a lot of fun things on your trip! I loved NYC when I visited. Sometimes I miss living in a big city (I grew up in Chicago) but then I remember all the insane traffic & rushing everywhere & people, people, people EVERYWHERE & I'm glad to be in a much smaller town in the middle of nowhere!

It sounds like you had an awesome visit here, in NYC, Mike. Wish you had been able to stay the weekend - it would have been an honor to meet and worship with you at Manhattan Church.
