First,

Mike, thanks for your usual open gracious generosity with time and your blog!

Brad - thanks so much. I'll pass the info. along to my friend.

Everyone, I'm too sad and with a terminal case of deja vu [1998 Padres vs Yankees] to comment. ;)

Next year!!!!!!

Kathy,

Concerning your friend moving to Texarkana and looking for a church, I can only recommend one, and then again I don't know just a whole lot about that one. Westside Church of Christ is the one that seems to be the most open. This whole area has been steeped in tradition, the old paths, and dogmatism for many years, and few have broken free. Walnut is the big one with the billion dollar facility, but I wouldn't go there. Rose Hill I surely wouldn't go there. But, then again, your friend may have to visit each one and see what she thinks. I'm not sure about singles programs and things like that. I'm sure God will lead her to the right one.

Amy - There is broad approval of the TNIV translation. Those who don't like the gender inclusive language are picking away at it. But I think it's a needed improvement over the NIV.

Kathy - Sorry, I just don't know much about the churches there. Perhaps someone else can help.

Paul - Cardinals vs. Tigers. I was there for one of the games in St. Louis! Bob Gibson ruled in '68 (even though the Cards lost the series).

Completely off topic and begging your indulgence, Mike as I too ask to take advantage of this wonderful blog, asking for information.

One of my dearest friends was just transfered to the Metroplex for District Manager training. Shortly, she will be moving on to Texarkana, TX. She is asking for information/suggestions for a church home in Texarkana.

She's a dynamic gal, single mom, and would prefer a church that has an active singles or single parenting group. Of course, she'd be thrilled to find a church home that has a Mike Cope clone as its preacher, but... :)

Any suggestions? She just called me, asking for help finding this. She'll also be looking for a reputable and capable real estate agent to help her find her new home in Texarkana. Help?

Thanks Mike, and thanks to anyone that might be able to help.

My first World Series memories are from fourth grade. My teacher actualy let us bring in this tiny radio and turn it down real low and listen to it during class! As a teacher now, I can't imagine letting my kids do that...but I wish I could!

Who was playing back in '68 anyway?

Amen on the little league! When the game is over, you can go find your best friend on the other team and get your free Cokes and watch another friend play.

Note: comment unrelated to today's post... commenter fell asleep in the 8th inning! :(

Four days ago, you posted mention of the TNIV. Many commented (including myself) about having it already and/or liking it. Because it is new, opinions are just starting to form. Oddly enough, I heard a radio program (which will go unnamed) that strongly discouraged using this new version because of the grave errors it possessed in translation of mostly gender inclusive changes. What do you think that is all about?

Well, Mark, I remember as a "big" kid taking sick leave during the WS since the games were all day games. [ducking head in red-faced shame]

As a Padre fan, now backing the Astros, the sense of deja vu all over again is upon me - 1998 WS Padres swept by Yankees. I certainly hope the Astros will break that nightmare memory tonight!!

AND to make it even worse, Geoff Burke was just traded by the Padres to Chicago. Then double the frustration, Geoff was an Astro at one time also. How dare he! Grrrrr!!

My oldest son (14) plays JV football. Had a opposing player in our last game of the season that on the encouragement of a coach tried to hurt a player's already injured knee. Then my youngest son (10) plays "Midget League" football and last weekend, overheard a coach on the opposing side of the field actually use these words, "Let's hear some bones breaking." Then when their larger players really popped one of our smaller ones, they just egged them on to do it again. It was horrible. The state of little kids sports discourages me so much that I'm almost tempted as a mom to request they not play. It's not worth it! And I am a HUGE football fan! Go Colts, Roll Tide and Got Titans!

Hey..how about a World Series day game once in while. For those of us in the eastern time zone, staying up 'til 1:45 a.m. is a killer. If it's a kids game...give them a chance to watch it, too.

We are only 80 miles from the World Series and no tickets. But after hearing that tickets were $600+, I don't think we would have gone anyway. Some friends of ours were able to be picked for the lottery of the $600 tickets, bought them and then were offered $3200 for the tickets. Needless to say they are watching from their den as well.

Baseball....who knew? I am just hoping for a miracle. The Stros have played well, nothing to be ashamed of, but they really need a win, and four in a row would be great!

Go Stros!

I echo my fellow camp director's (Steve) comments concerning the Gators since I'm a Seminole fan!
As for Little League - I do miss those days with my son. He is a sophmore now playing for our High School (Cocoa High) team. The high school field is across the street from our Little League field. In Florida (except when Hurricanes come calling) kids condition year round for baseball so my son is on the baseball field 3 days a week even during this time of year. Usually when they're practicing on the High School field I jog by the Little League field. I can still hear the voices of the past cheering on the kids. Man do I miss it.
Come on Astros - how about 4 games in a row!
