[...] Just two years ago, it was the Beach Boys that got the car pool guys to open their eyes a bit. But that was sixth grade. They were just boys. Now they’re iPod carrying eighth graders. It’s Jack Johnson. Great music. (A friend just told me about “My Own Two Hands” from the Curious George soundtrack. Very nice duet with Ben Harper.) [...]

Mike, hearing that you have an iPod does good things for my estimation of you. However, you're gonna hafta learn how to write "iPod" correctly or Steve Jobs (and, by association, every Mac geek on the planet) will have an anyeurism. Do you want to be held responsible for the spontaneous implosion of millions of heads worldwide?

If nothing else, think of the <I>mess</I> it'd make... (Better yet, don't...)

I know what you mean about “Love the One Your With.” I, too, had a crush on Ken Dowdy. The CSN stuff rocked. I liked it so much; I just went ahead and married him.

My first college crush(I was in highschool)was when Ken Dowdy,Jeff Schlender and the third guy escapes my memory, of the '71 Time of Day would sing "Love the One You're With" in their set. I was just so sure they were staring right at me as they sang it. Also wanted to comment that the radio songs I would turn up and give the history of to my young sons(back in the early '90's) were chosen by same son when he married on the beach last summer--STING'S "Fields of Gold","Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and "When We Dance". Recessional was "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the BB's. Loved it! Moms do have some good influence on their boys!

Don was too humble to include the fact that they were so popular that they had "roadie" chicks that followed them around the country! No foolin! Ken Pulley can still sing like a song bird, and he is the ONLY person I know who can come close to doing any justice to Roy Orbison's "In Dreams". Ken is amazing. And Don.....well they have not invented the musical instrument that he can't play and sing with. They had a state wide acoustical contest a few years ago in Conway, and Don was one of the winners. You gotta hear his original song "I wanta be B.B. King". He brings the house down every time.

Hey, forgive me for going on like this....but it is not everyday I get to brag on my Brother Figure (in honor of Earnest T. Bass)!! If any of you have any connections, he can still make it in Nashville. If not, he can still always do Bald Knob. :)

Mike, our first two years there the group was made up of Hicks, Woodruff, and Don Miller. The last two it was Ken Pulley, Dwight Erickson and me. Pulley still lives here, and so does Chuck, so we get to pick occasionally, but not much. And yes, that Snap, Crackle, Pop thang is indelibly imprinted. I think it became part of my DNA.

That was a wonderful two years. We got to travel all over the country and do what we loved and eat a lot of great food and not worry about expenses and all of that. We traveled mostly with Rick Barnes, Admissions Officer Extraordinaire. His neice, Bridget Barnes, is now in her sr. year at ACU and attends Highland. (Her family lives in Comanche, TX) She tells me she loves the congregation and speaks very highly of you, too. If you see her, tell her Don says hey.

FRANK BELLIZZI AND MATT ELLIOTT! I can't believe you two know each other. That completes my CT-GA-TN connection. Hey Frank, didn't you marry Michelle from Manchester? What a sweetie she is. We've got lots of good memories of when she was in our youth group way back when.

Anyway, blessings to you both.

Andy - I've had my IPOD about 6 months. And here's the confession: I have the Bose IPOD speaker. Just in case I need to entertain our whole block. I love the IPOD -- all my favorite songs (Christian and otherwise) and a few messages I like to keep with me ("I Have a Dream").

Back to "Time of Day." Was it Eudaly, Hicks, and Woodroof while we were there? Can you still do the "Snap, Crackle, Pop" song, Don?

Beaner, don't feel too bad! I would never have guessed that the Beach Boys did a cover of Crocodile Rock, either. Now I'm thinking I'd like to hear it!

Just out of curiosity I did a web search and found a list of the songs the Beach Boys have covered. It includes a few Beatles songs as well! (<a HREF="http://www.blogger.com/r?http%3A%2F%2Fwww.coversproject.com%2Fartist%2FBeach%2BBoys" rel="nofollow">Beach Boys Covers</A>)

I didn't know the Beach Boys had a version of 'Crocodile Rock' - sorry Emily! I can see them singing that song, but can you imagine Elton singing 'Wouldn't It Be Nice?' I guess it doesn't work both ways!

Some songs just plain make me happy and "Brown-Eyed Girl" is one of them.

"Time of Day" -- I remember them. They came through Beaumont, TX to play at the Christian school I went to. This would have been in the mid-80s. A couple of them stayed at my house, including a guy named Denver Lee that all the girls at school fell in love with the next day. So I was -- at least for one day -- the coolest girl in school since Denver had stayed at my house. OK, I was in love with him, too. I even talked about going to Harding until my ACU grad dad put a stop to that nonsense.

The versoin I have heard of Crocodile Rock has the Beach Boys signing, that is why I put their name with it. Its too bad that all of my dad's cd's are with him, and I'm at college. I miss some of them. My dad told me about one song by the Beatles (I think) that has a title that isnt all that pleasnt. I also think Queen rocks!!!!

Yeah, it was either them or "The Wright Brothers"! Member them? Seems like they came every year, or maybe twice a year. I would have chosen the "Time of Day" between the two. Guess I was (am) prejudiced. Don and his boys could play ANYTHING....yes, including the Stones. They had a "Time of Day" reunion a couple of years ago and it was REALLY REALLY good. They can still get after it. Only difference was they had to take a lot more bathroom breaks and the lyrics were kinda slurred from to time. :) Oh, and the hair is shorter.....what hair is left.

Thanks for the memories!

Mike,

I remember them singing at several club banquets the Crosby, Stills & Nash song: Love The One Your With --"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with."
