Funny how we find comfort in a God who never changes but want a church that does. : )

True, as we are transformed into the image of God, we change. And there are some changes we make individually or as a corporate body that may inspire greater godliness, but godliness can also be produced in the forbearance we experience when the church doesn't meet with our expectations. At our family get-togethers, our young would enjoy karaoke at full-throttle, while our old want to play bingo or quietly look at old photos. But it is amazing how many young people have been blessed when they stopped long enough to share some of those quieter moments.

So you want the church here on earth to be like Heaven -- If we will be doing it in Heaven, we should be doing it on earth? Well, there is one thing we won't be doing in Heaven and that is seeking the lost. But it is our mission here on earth. And it has always amazed me how when that becomes our focus, issues such as gender justice, or whatever will be the next wave, fall in their significance. Sometimes, while seeking the lost, the church actually does make changes in directions that match with our tastes, and sometimes not -- but the Fruit of the Spirit it produces in us, regardless of the externals, is a much greater gift than whether or not the music matches with our tastes or women participate in every aspect of worship.

Wouldn't it be great to pass by a church that said "Gently bringing about change since..."? Church leaders have been on the cutting edge of civil rights, help for the homeless, etc. I'd love to see more churches embrace that history. Now, THAT's a passion for politics.

It has been my experience that there are just as many people who do not so gently embrace change as there are people who do not so gently shove change down peoples throats -- you know, those people who feel it is their calling to drag us kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Both types make me very queasy, and both types tend to confuse change or non-change with a spiritual relationship with God.

Please tell us this is not the first time you danced with your wife! :) You know I have never seen a preacher dance. Although, I have seen Brandon attempt to boogie a few times...he isn't really a "in the pulpit every Sunday preacher". I thought they clipped prospective preachers twinkle toes during undergrad or something. So glad to know that not all preachers have two left feet. Here's to you and Jenna's parents for not being afraid you would step on someones toes(punn completely intended)by dancing at your childrens wedding! What better day to dance? I picture the angels dancing when they rejoice... Wouldn't that just "burn some people up" to find out that their is dancing in heaven!

Gruene is German for green, guacamole is green (or verde in Spanish). Guacamole gently resists change while it is being eaten; however, if it is left out in the open for a few hours, it will turn dark and not be appealing. By using a "change agent" such as lemon or vinegar, the color will remain vibrant. Some may say that the lemon or vinegar is not a change agent, but a preservative. I believe that you could make a valid argument for both!
