Ah, Julie. Again, HOLY GROUND! A place where God has brought his joy into your life.

But now I have to ask you . . . Have you ever had a really good blueberry pie? Not made with tart Texas blueberries, but with Missouri blueberries?

I am loving the lists. We started this yesterday over Father's Day lunch at Don Pablo's (at which I ate my share of guacamole) but it plummeted into dislikes instead of likes. See Mike, your blog has even influenced Sunday dinner conversation.

I like...

Cake not pie;
Cats not dogs (have been chased too many times);
Hot weather not cold;
Long talks with old friends not parties with new aquaintances;
Sand dunes not boardwalks.

I like my dear, patient husband; Jane Austen; The Indigo Girls; Frederick Buechner; misty mornings in the mountains; sunny days on the beach; long walks; babies when they first wake up; and watching my children interact with each other and their friends.

Mike-

I'll keep away from the debate. I love that, of all the debates in your blogs, Fox News vs CNN is such a big one. Very revealing and, I know, not at all what you intended. In the vein you started with.

I like...

Bruce Springsteen over John Mellencamp;
SNL of the '70s over SNL of any other decade;
The book of Revelation over the Left Behind series;
Jimmy Stewart over Cary Grant;
The Imitation of Christ over The Prayer of Jabez;
Dusk over dawn;
An ice cold beer over a hot cup of coffee;
A quiet coffeeshop over a crowded bar;
The Beatles over The Beach Boys;
Chocolate cake over key lime pie;
Films about sports over sports themselves;
Texas bbq over North Carolina bbq;
Musicians who are Christians over Christian musicians

I like unsweetened tea, CS Lewis, films directed by Tim Robbins, Updike's writings on golf (but not golf itself), Texas Roadhouse chopped steak, my mother's chicken pot pie, jokes that aren't at anyone's expense, evening drives, talks with my dad, the occasional cigarette, playing cards, and making my wife laugh from her belly. And feeling my son kick at that belly before I go to sleep.

I'm so glad you people get time to watch the news! I do good to read the yahoo headlines and check out two or three blogs every other day. Who has time for TV? I can't say that I think there is any unbiased news on the tube or in print these days. How did we all come to be such experts with such strong opinions? ...I include me in that "we"! Seems the one thing all of us in the good ole USA can agree on is that we all have an opinion. God bless us!

It seems to me that if Fox News (brought to us by the people who have supplied the most vile stuff on TV) were truly balanced and nonpartisan, I would hear from friends to the right and the left who like it. To this point, I've only heard positive comments from people who tend to be ULTRA conservative. Something about that makes me believe that it is hardly "fair and balanced." It is a network that has found a market for the far right wing. That's fair enough. But let's not pretend it's real news--or impartial in any meaningful sense.

Sorry,
But I like balanced news, not partisan, agenda-filled news...give me Fox News (not an oxymoron) over any other news every day of the week.

That was like watching Michael Jordan miss a lay-up or Tiger missing a tap in. Every once in a while it does us good to know you are human too! Or should I say it does everybody else good...........all I have to do is remember back to those days when you were playing for Knights! :)

Love you brother,
Dave

How did I write "we all serve the same job"? Obviously, I meant "the same God." Wow--there is a sermon in there somewhere.

Good words, Buster. We do, indeed, all serve the same job. This blog is a place for me to blather about things like news shows. But the larger issue is that we who disagree on things like news shows, politics, and school choices can find a beautiful "unity amid diversity." Wouldn't that be a witness to the world?

Mike Cope over any other Preacher.

Fox and Friends over any other news show.

Imagine that!

And yet we all serve the same God.
